A horse of a different color?

Recommended Posts

TT

I know this was hit on a while back, and I just found some pictures that I felt like posting. I really could have a whole entire message board about these things (and did at one time) but since I don't have any of them anymore, I'll keep it small.

My last 5.0 -- a 1989 LX 5 speed

Same car, less glamour:

I won't "hog up" the tractor site with car stuff, but if I find the Capri archive, I might stick a couple photos on here.

I had a small collection of Mustangs:

1966 289 2v-Automatic coupe

1968 390 4v-Automatic convertable

1974 coupe Automatic ghia

1978 coupe V6 automatic

1978 Mach I, T-Tops, 4-Speed (V6 :D )

Now I have none!

My brother had a 79 2.3L Turbo coupe

and an 81 5.0 coupe

Great little cars!

Cool! :D You even had a couple "real" ones. :P

I bet the '68 was a beautiful car.

This was the absolute last Mustang on the property. Our 2000 V6/auto that the wife drove until she got stuck in the snow with it. :(

We both have Explorers now. :(

Terry you got my vote....lets see them! :D

I have ran picks of boats to Ford model A dump trucks in this thread. :P

Good to know what Red Square memeber like "besides" tractors too!

The blue LX looks pretty modest...but I bet it had a punch to it.

The 68 was the right colors, black with red interior. It had an automatic, and power top, that's it! Manual steering, manual brakes, manual everything except trans and top. When that 4v kicked in whoo doggie!

Nothing like 335 horses jumping out of an FE Ford big block ! :D

Did it have any traction issues, Karl ? :P

Most of the car photos are "real" and will need scanned to this 'puter. (since they went AWOL with the last 'puter)

The LX was quite a sleeper, but not overly nasty. It still had the 2.73 Trac-Lok rear (138 mph top speed) when I could get 27 - 28 mpg on trips. (I used to do a 350 mile "parent-trade" run with my son every third weekend when his mother was in VA) I ended up putting a 3.55 T/L rear in it and the mileage dropped to about 20, but it would come out of the hole MUCH better. :(

The cost of insurance was absurd, so I sold it and got a 1995 Explorer.

I'll try to get some other pictures up soon.

These things are supposed to get traction? Maybe add some cast iron wheel weights, or fluid fill the tires? Maybe a set of AG's? Nothing's gonna give these things traction...

I knew a guy with a '69 Fastback that was 390/C-6 equipped. It was getting a little rough underneath (floors were patched and the torque boxes were almost gone) and he was afraid to really get on it. You could actually look corner-to-corner across the roof and see the wrinkles! :D

I never own a 'Tang, but did own an European built '76 Mercury Capri with the 2.8 V-6.

Now, my brother-in-law has own a few. One was a mid-70's Mustang II and he dropped in a 351 in it. It was pretty fast.

He then had a '81 that he fitted a 460 into it. He pretty much custom built that car around the engine - custom made headers, fitted a early 70's full sized LTD front end under it, redid the interior, painted it a real nice blue. At any speed the rear end would break loose it you just nudged the accelerator.

His last was a '96 with just the modest 3.8 L V-6 that he bought for his wife. It now sits over at my place as he wants to put new bearings in it.

Nice mustang pictures Terry.

When I was 16 had a 1976 Mustang cobra II. The 302 had been replaced with a stock 289. Didnt drive it long after the near police chase. lol Then at 18 had an 82 Capri, it might have only had a 4cyl but that was still fast enough to roll end over then barrel roll another 3 or 4 times into a field. :D Funny thing was on the same roll of film I had a picture not long after buying it and then of it dented down after the roll. Have to look around but I think the pictures were lost. My brothers had a 70 Boss 302 with the wrong engine, and a 65 Mustang he put a frame, tub and roll cage in with a well built 351-C, 95 V6 mustang and a 2000 Mustang GT.

That's exactly (almost) the car that got me started on the Capri "kick". I bought a 1976 Capri II with a 2300 four cylinder and a 4 speed (Dagenham, I believe?) for $200 when I was 16. I even had a set of 4 lug Cragar SS wheels on it! :D

Being German-built and autobahn ready, speeds in excess of 130 mph weren't uncommon. (with the tach needle bouncing off of 7500 rpms :( ) I had more fun than any teenage white male should have ever had with that car. (not in the backseat either! :P ) It eventually rusted away and was replaced by a 1979 V6/auto Capri Ghia.

Cool ride, Perry!

Got the newer 1/4 windows & cowl induction hood on there too, I see. :D

How bad do your T-Tops leak ? :(

Still have the speed density injection, or did you convert to mass air? (or carb)

I had a 1984 Bronco II 4X4 with a 1987 5.0 H.O. / auto. It was a real blast and it sounded better than any other Bronco II in my area. :P

oh ya the T-tops leak bad :(

i switched the fuel inj out with a holley 650 double pumper & a high rise intake. got 4:10 gear, new posi clutch's, trick flow aluminum raceing heads, shorty equal leght BBK crome headers. flow master exhaust, and a few other goodies :( . also have a set of frame connectors that have been sitting in the shed for 5 years. maybe some day ill get them on.

one thing i like about this car is it was special ordered with power windows, but no power locks, no air, no cruise, & a dark maroon interior with grey pinstripped seats. seems you always see the 80's - 90's mustangs with the grey interior, air & cruise. sure makes it nice under the hood with out that extra clutter. now that im old i kinda wish it had air.

i am second owner and its never seen snow. pretty fun car when i was single and in my 20's.

The Mustang II's were WAY under powered. My Mach I with T-Tops (didn't leak!) was an absolute blast to drive. Couldn't pass a mule up hill, but what fun!

That's why my bil dropped in a 351 in one. That thing was fast then.

OK Terry I see window numbers on the 79 with the 351. 1/4 or 1/8 mile and what did she run? Oh a nice set of horses by the way.

An embarassing 18.12 on the first pass and a 17.81 on the second -- and then the rear brake hose blew out at top end. :P That was the only time it went to the track with me, and that was only because a few friends talked me into it. It still had the 3.08 open rear and it spun the one rear tire past the 1/8 mile timer box. (don't back in the water with an open differential! :D ) I did end up with a "Lincoln locker" in it, but then a friend of mine bought it. He took it back to the track and ran a 15-something, which wasn't bad for a stock 1977 351W with a 4bbl. :(

No not bad at all. I learned the no water on a one wheelie peelie too. Mine was running 9.80s in the 1/4 when I sold it. Well x-wife sold it. Judge awarded it and my dodge mud truck to her.
