thread size for exhaust

Does anybody know the correct thread pitch on a Kohler k241 exhaust port. the extension tube on mine is a little worn and I need a new muffler. Is it a standard size I can buy at a hardware store? Mine was always loosening up on me and the studs are gone so I cant bolt it on. :hide:

It's regular NPT. (pipe thread) a nipple from the hardware store will be fine.

NPT or BSP is about the only thread standard thats never changed in the UK .All the others have .We started off with whitworth and then went to your A/F and now we are all Metric. You need three sets of spanners if you are working on old and newer machines.Its a bit of a pain if you come across some old whitworth bolt and no spanner to fit it.

Pipe sizes are "Nominal" meaning that the nomial size doesn't necessarilly conform to the ID or OD of the pipe.

Schedule 40 is the "standard" thickness, but others do exist.

The only beauty to this system is that ALL pipe with the same nominal size has the same OD which means that the same cutting/threading equipment can be used.

I hope I am reading your question correctly.

The exhaust port on a K- 241 Kohler is machined for a 1 inch NPT pipe.

Wild Bill is right, 1 inch NPT for the K-241. If the nipple from the block is loosening from vibration you can install a conduit locknut on the pipe and run it up tight to the block. That should hold the pipe snug.
