Happy Birthday Ole Evinrude!

Collectors of outboard motors for boats, today is the birthday anniversary for Ole Evinrude born in 1877. Although not the inventor of the outboard, he is credited with his "Marine Propulsion Device" becoming the most successful.

Not to be a wise guy but its Ole not Ollie with a pronouncement of O-Lee... :hide: Anyway, maybe I'll run this rig this week to honor him..IMG_1737_zps07117227.jpg

Sorry, Ken. I corrected the spelling. Must have been my Swedish roots showing.

Ken, you should have prefaced your remarks with "not to be evinRUDE, but..."

I remember my first experience with an outboard motor was when my dad pulled an old 1955, 1.5 hp Evinrude out of the dump. I remember that he was so proud that he got it running. He tested it in a 55 gallon steel drum filled with water. I don't think he ever used it on a boat, and sold it to a friend for practically nothing.

I just delivered a 15 hsp to DClark a couple of weeks ago.  He got it from a friend of mine...maybe a late 50's early 60's...Denny says it runs like a champ.  I don't think Denny has anything that doesn't run like a champ.  :)  I don't know if he can catch fish though.  :ychain:   :)

All this "boat talk" make me glad I don't work at a Napa anymore!  :)

Bob, reminds me of the days I spent at Engineman A School. We spent a week on small engines, including put-puts. Also recall the days fishing about 50 years ago on the Chippewa River in Pepin County, WI for Sunfish and Small Mouth Bass. We didn't have to row as we had a MOTOR!

Steve, I talked to KenB about it and he told me what to check to get this old motor ready to go again. Even gave me the part number for a new water pump. Thanks, Ken! Turns out it's a 1956 model and it's 10 hp..... By the way, I never was much good at catching fish.
