JERSEYHAWG / Glenn 4,487 #1 Posted April 4, 2015 As most of you know I have been searching for the elusive Tecumseh H 60 for the 500 special. A gentleman in Conn. Sent me this for my tractor. A freebie. He had it on a 1966 wheel horse he parted out. Question is....what is it? Where are the Id numbers on it? Why white with a red tank? Thanks fellas. slammer302 2,154 #2 Posted April 4, 2015 There usually on top of the blower housing by the head bolts stamped in the metal there looks like its rusted up there might have to get sum sandpaper and give it a rub
KC9KAS 4,741 #3 Posted April 4, 2015 (edited) I guess it depends what the engine came off of. If it came off of a SEARS, it would have been white in color. I have a WORK HORSE 700 that has a white engine on it. One of the PO's put a short block H-70 on it and it must be for a tiller, as it has an additional shaft that turns real slow compared to the crankshaft. JERSEYHAWG / Glenn 4,487 #5 Posted April 4, 2015 Looks like HH60......whatever......numbers not close. Do I rebuild and use for a temp motor? Maybe....it's frustrating finding that H60. Glenn
19richie66 16,989 #6 Posted April 4, 2015 I see HH60 1050 83F SER 7031d
JERSEYHAWG / Glenn 4,487 #7 Posted April 5, 2015 Does anyone know what's that off? Could that be a original wheel horse motor? The white raises red flags.....I might RE do it just to have a engine for the 500 while I keep looking. ????? Glenn
shallowwatersailor 3,213 #8 Posted April 5, 2015 Close enough for government work.
tbarnhart 240 #9 Posted April 5, 2015 Cast iron block=HH60. Aluminum block=H60. Other than being original, the HH is better in about every way. Somewhere I saw a list of the internal differences. Stuff like forged rod and piston instead of cast. Stellite exhaust valve. Some hardening on cam and crank journals. I say rebuild and run it.
slammer302 2,154 #10 Posted April 5, 2015 If you can find a h60 sheet metal no one would no the difference

JERSEYHAWG / Glenn 4,487 #13 Posted April 5, 2015 I see HH60 1050 83F SER 7031d I am still rubbing my eyes and cleaning my glasses. Glenn
prondzy 3,867 #14 Posted April 6, 2015 The motor is probably from a blower or tiller. The previous owner said it came off a wheel horse doesn't mean it was the original. Rebuild it keep looking for the perfect one.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 10,538 #15 Posted April 6, 2015 The last HH60-105047B Wheel Horse used was on the 1968 Commando 6 model 1-4631. The spec numbers always seem to decrease with age so HH60-105083F should be later. Garry
305 380 #16 Posted April 6, 2015 (edited) i'd change the stuff like carburetor/throttle/exhaust/fuel tank/ air filter / dipstick/ mounting plate etc that is not right for your application and use it i believe that fuel tank with the long filler neck is for a Lawn Ranger Edited April 6, 2015 by 305
Terry M-(Moderator) 2,128 #17 Posted April 6, 2015 (edited) You can spot an HH Tecumseh a mile away when it has the rusty cooling fins near the exhaust outlet. The one pictured looks to have almost everything you need. Some of the short frames (605,606,etc. ) came equipped with Tecumseh 6 hp hh60 with the tall filler neck on the gas tank from what I've seen including all 65-68 lawn Rangers like 305 said. just my 2 cents.....
