lodestonefarm 41 #1 Posted March 5, 2015 Will a older single-stage snow thrower (like the one below) fit and work on a 520? How does one know for sure? Thanks,
Rob R 951 #2 Posted March 5, 2015 I mounted the same blower on my GT 14 by adapting a Tach-a-Matic hitch to the front of the frame, You just need to calculate the belt you need when you get though mounting the blower (in my case 86-87 inch belt). I have been using this all this season with no issues... Ed Kennell 36,029 #3 Posted March 5, 2015 I had one on my 520 before I got the tall chute. It worked fine. Just need the correct belt length and lift/push rod length.
lodestonefarm 41 #4 Posted March 5, 2015 Sounds like this is possible. Thanks for the responses. Peter
varosd 1,185 #5 Posted March 5, 2015 Peter, Just got in from snow throwing with the short chute on the 520-H It never ceases to amaze me what it can do. yes, it's not a tall chute or a mighty 2 stage...but it never lets me down
lodestonefarm 41 #6 Posted March 6, 2015 (edited) Hi Don- Glad to hear it. As everyone warned me, after buying my first WH I'm already shopping for my second. The 520 I got has the big mowing deck and came with a plow but what I'm missing is the blower. I've been looking around for a second WH with blower. I was hoping I could move the blower to the big machine and move my plow over to the smaller one. I don't have anything specific in mind, but it looks like for only slightly more than a 2-stage blower I can get a second tractor with older single stage blower. Folks here have confirmed that. p Edited March 6, 2015 by lodestonefarm
varosd 1,185 #7 Posted March 6, 2015 the more the better as you also have read on the possible abrupt breakdown of our beloved machines at the wrong/worst time. always good to have a back up rig or 2 or 3.... of course, you do need a place store/hide them. can whlvr 991 #8 Posted March 7, 2015 you especially need another tractor when one has the onan in it
cheesegrader 433 #9 Posted March 15, 2015 Personally, i've been happy (or maybe just lucky) with my onans. When I was looking for a backup tractor, I stubled across a mint 520 with a loader. I had to have it. Then I needed another tractor as a backup, since I use the loader too much to ever take it off. With two 520's, it seemed easier to just get another. Swapping parts, implements, maintenence are all easier when the tractors are the same. So now I have three. And I am looking for another 520 for my brother. And a roller 520 to strip for parts would be nice. So that is the story of my 520 addiction. Why bother with anything else?
