tractorhogg 612 #1 Posted February 18, 2015 Is there a place to post non member ads for craigslist or eBay listings?

tractorhogg 612 #3 Posted February 18, 2015 I was going to post a good deal on a old wheel horse from a craigslist ad, but I didn't see any other ads posted so I thought I would ask. If I could ask one more question, what is the reason behind this rule? Thanks
nylyon-(Admin) 7,880 #4 Posted February 18, 2015 This was in the supporter area: Here's the reason we do not allow links to Craigslist or eBay and maybe the explanation will help. This has happened numerous times, enough to make it a rule. Someone would post a "what is this", "is this a good deal", "what would you pay" type of post and include the link to eBay or Craigslist. A member (or guest who can read the posts) would then contact the seller and and (out of the goodness of their hearts) inform the seller that they could get more money for it (hey do you know what that's worth), or would bid the cost up to the point that the original interested member would either have to pay more of forget about it.I do not believe that a forum should inflate or help promote items which our members may not be directly involved with. This is another reason also why our classifieds are for member equipment only. You can bet that if it's on eBay our members already know about it, or at least those who are looking. By advertising you are likely helping to raise the cost of that item. Now, say someone is looking for a fliphis valve for their 1958 TM-1921 and you saw one on eBay. By all means PM that member (or even say check eBay) about the item.
tractorhogg 612 #5 Posted February 18, 2015 This was in the supporter area: Thanks Karl, great explanation. I have a real problem with online valuations as well. Over valuing tractors has gotten out of hand to the point that people who have never been in or around the hobby think any tractor is rare and worth thousands of dollars. I don't think valuations should be on the boards at all. I have also seen lowball valuations start to appear on other forums that do allow the posting of ads, where someone will ask what a good running" ABC4242" tractor with a three point, deck, tiller, and snowblower is worth and they are told 200-400 tops. That doesn't help things either, in fact it hurts the collector, the forum, and makes the potential hobbyist wary of forums when they find out they were misled or someone used them to find a tractor.
