Is the chain and sprockets for the following snowblowers interchangeable? Similar? The same fitment?

06-42ST01 1980 snowblower

06-42ST05. 1988 snowblower

It seems that they have the same numbers and size.

But the blowers are constructed differently in some places and many people seem to sell for the 4201 and they don't mention the 4205.

Since you have done the blower P/N look-up, if the individual P/N for the items are the same, I would say those parts are interchangeable.  When the last digits ie T01 to T05 change, it usually means a minor change, but you do need to check every part in the assembly to find out where are the differences.  Also, if you put in the older P/N at a supplier, often times the newer P/N is an OEM substitute for the former P/N.  It could be as simple as a difference in how the individual part was manufactured, but does not effect form, fit and function.
