GT 14 Three Point Hitch Fabrication

Hi fellow Wheelers I just completed the fabrication of a Three Point Hitch for my 70"s GT14. Parts List include: 

 

1. Used Wheel horse Rear Axle Bracket to which I added two Class One Hitch Pins with a steel bar welded across (bar was from an old shaft from a bad shock absorber)

 

2. Lower lift and Center lift bars and center lift arm (purchase from e-bay for $150) Note: One side was adjustable and the other solid, I changed the solid one so that is also adjust so that I could obviously adjust it and also make it fit better by removing a section and welding-in two threaded bolts

 

3. A twenty inch Class One tow bar from Tractor Supply for $139

 

 

Think you'll agree it came-out pretty good. Comments or suggestion appreciated

 

As a side note might someone know what the rear pulley on the GT14 is for..... I assume perhaps the rototiller... but it looks so flimsy for that?  Thanks

Glad you cleared that up, because I bought a cat "0" for about $20 from Rural King!

No plans for check chains, don't think they are needed as I made collars for the uplift bars which prevent the horizontal bars or draw bar from hitting the wheels etc.

Yes sir I was also surprised that a class (1) hitch fits like a glove with a little bit of welding and TLC.

Okay so we finally got some decent weather and I had a chance to put all the pieces together to complete my GT 14 3 PT hitch and platform (good for 400 lbs plus). Hope you like it tried it out today with my wife on the platform and it work flawlessly.....

Yes what I like about the GT 14 is the weight and might of a relatively small package, the front cast iron grille is very heavy that plus the heavy duty frame and the cast iron Kohler 14 HP engine makes something like the back pallet I built work. My guess so far is that the pallet will support and lift about five hundred pounds before it starts lifting the front end of the tractor.... this is the max I want to support on my home made back loader.... so I will use this a my fall safe to protect the tractor hydraulics, the back loader and my overall safety!

At the risk of sounding too critical of an otherwise pretty cool project but , would it not have been beneficial to bend the ends of the top link arms in at the top 10 degrees for smother movement & less wear on the pins ?

Technically yes practically no, I and the next owner will be in our grave before any significant wear occurs on these heavy duty arms, plus it keeps just enough tension so that the horizontal arms center and do not hit the tires (so I don't have to add any additional chains.  Thanks for the comment

Don't forget your fall safety harness!! The three point looks good!!! Favorite tractor around here!!!
