post-14397-0-97221500-1419724444_thumb.jCan anybody explain why the motor is mounted like this on my newly purchased tractor?Only one side of the motor is secured to the  frame, appears the base of motor is too large and extends  over frame.I'm puzzled but I"m sure some of  you guys will be intrigued. Is a 1987.

As you are sitting on the tractor.....The left side has bolts going through the engine base and through the frame with nuts.

On the right side, the back hole has a bolt going UP through the frame into the base. The hole you are showing in the photo gets a "J" bolt that has the nut on top of the engine base and the "J" under the frame.

Where are my manners..... :WRS:

I'm not sure i'm following you the pic. was taken from front side (drive belt pulley ect.)There is nothing coming through the holes in the base of motor -I just went outside with a flashlight. Or do you mean the motor is attached underneath to the frame by these 'j' bolts that I cannot see without laying on the ground?

yes, lay on the ground and look up at the engine form underneath.  you will see two bolts going thru the frame into the engine

There's no J hooks needed or used. The oil pan has tapped holes for the right side (PTO side). Bolts come up from under the frame into the tapped holes in the pan. Perfectly correct. :)

As Doc said, you're in fine shape. Look under the frame and you'll see the bolts into the oil pan on the right side.

To elaborate a bit more. The K series big block oil pans Wheel Horse used before the wobble mounts had the holes in the bottom tapped. The left side bolted through the flanges into the frame. The right side has bolts coming up from under the frame. The overhanging holes were normal.

My bad.....I see now he is talking about a 310.....I was thinking about my 10 hp on my B-100. Sorry!

It's not supposed to be that way on a B-100. Kohler did make the same oil pan without the tapped holes but if that's what you have the motor isn't original. Since you have a right rear tapped hole I'm sure you have a right front. The J hook isn't original but it will work just fine. :)

Yes as said before it bolts front the bottom into the pan on the right side.

And YES on the mid frame B series tractors they used a J bolt on the front right corner as there is not room to put a bolt in from the bottom on that frame, but only the B's with the 10 hp and I think that was only 1974

Here is a pic of my sons 1974 B-100 auto, you can see how close the engine is to the front of the frame, because the frame is shorter, and there is no room to install a bolt from the bottom with the axle there.

Excuse my manners also,I joined RS Dec 13 -have a 310-8 with a 42 plow,36" side discharge deck and a bagging system. The guy wanted 275 for all and I bartered for ownership.I live in Mineral Ridge Oh 58yrs young.I went to look at a 310-8 early this year but it smoked so badly it scared me off.I own a Toro LX420 that is all I'm going to say about that.10 years ago I had an old Sears super 12 I think that was it.In the past 2 weeks have  bought & installed a drive belt, choke cable(need a throttle cable)bought a headlight on E-Bay.The motor purrs and not a hint of smoke ,steering is very loose and will slip ,voltmeter doesn't work,Ive noticed some wires loose or disconnected(ground to front engine mount?)The plow is on it,but the arm not connected for tilt(have everything but the wire and spring to triangular plate)have the attach-a-matiic) is this the mule drive? I"ve logged quite a few hours on this site, ebay, youtube ect.I"m envious of the amt of tractors you own thats a lot of knuckle busting.Congradulations on ur score Jeno. Very good site!Happy I joined, downloaded about 15 manuals and files so far.Thank You for the welcome!

I have heard that before Kelly but I really didn't think it was the case until you mentioned it. I just figured it was because somebody thought the motor wasn't bolted down in that corner so the  put a J bolt in. With the 74 B series being almost 2" shorter than the C's the axle does get in the way. I don't know but I'm thinking that the bolt would still work but can't be installed without dropping the front axle. That probably didn't work with the assembly process. I think the 75's were the same but the 76-77 B's had the bolt. I love all these goofy things about Wheel Horses.  :)

Yes I stand corrected also 75 on the B with the 10hp, in 76 and 77 the frame is the same as the C series so the bolt can be installed with the axle in place

Mine is a 1975, and it is not the original engine, BUT is is the same model/spec engine.

I think we all know that Wheel Horse made fine machines, BUT there is always an "exception to the rule" as we find out oddities on our tractors!
