SMITTY 23 #1 Posted December 17, 2014 Have a chance to pick a 520-H with a bad Onan engine can they be saved?
baerpath 517 #2 Posted December 17, 2014 Sure it can be saved, question is, is it worth saving. Without knowing what's wrong with it or what it did to make the P/O think it's bad hard to tell. Unless it's cheap
ericj 1,576 #3 Posted December 17, 2014 yea like Duane said it depends on what is wrong with it and how much the guy is asking some pictures would be nice also Duane hates onans i like them and there is a more on here that like them. if it is a valve seat it is repairable if it threw a rod then it's still repairable but will cost a lot more to fix. some dealers will tell guys that the tractor is not worth fixing because they don't want to be bothered and would rather sell a new tractor when in reality it is a fairly simple fix eric j
JackC 616 #4 Posted December 17, 2014 "bad ONAN engine" Typical things that make them bad, to not so bad, include broken rods and how much internal damage was done if any, valve seats that come loose, electrical problems and carburetor problems. Rods and valve seats can be replaced if little or no internal damage. Electrical problems depend on if internal or external (such as connections) and carburetors can be cleaned and rebuilt and often need to be if run on ethanol fuel. More info on what might be "bad", price, and the rest of the unit (year and condition) would help.
