BairleaFarm 340 #1 Posted October 16, 2008 Do you quit working on your tractors during the cold months? I know that I will most likely stop unless its mandatory. Im not one of the lucky ones with a heated garage.
linen beige 15 #2 Posted October 16, 2008 I'm with ya on the need a heated garage thingy. I do have a little room in the basement for engine work, but I can't stir up many fumes.
daemon2525 5 #3 Posted October 16, 2008 Nope, I actually have more time to work in the winter than I do in the summer. I heat my garage with a salamander (kero). I have much to do in the summer, Mow 2 acres, vegetable garden, house fixin, fishing. In the winter I got nothing, so I work in the shop.

jusjeepn 59 #6 Posted October 16, 2008 Best time of year for a resto project. I too, am to busy during summer to do much else but repair what has to be repaired. I tore down one my W/H discs last spring after using it on the garden, to sand blast and repaint. Its still sitting in pieces and now I need to use it again. I do seem to find plenty of time during the summer to acqire more projects though 5 of my current 6 horses were acquired this summer!!! I sold 3 horses, 3 deeres, 3 cubs,1 case, 2 sickle bar mowers, a flymow, and 4 push mowers. Down to 12 lawn mowers, 6 garden tractors (all red in this shed), 11 implements (9 are red), 5 chain saws, 3 string trimmers and a boat load of parts :omg:

jerrell 1 #8 Posted October 17, 2008  i grew up on a farm and we did all our major repairs in the winter, so i guess i'm carrying on the family tradition,, this winter got to finish the GT-LP20, the roof mower i just bought , have to paint and repower with new motor, rebuild the engine and hydro pump and left hydro motor on hustler 295, my shop is three sided with the front open, 24 x 40, i usually put up visquene over a 12 x 12 section and heat with a forced air shop heater(kero) i know you fellows have to deal with colder weather than i do ,but some days here it gets pretty cold. i only get to work one day then have to recoup the next two so maybe i won't get it all done , i think maybe of just taking the hustler and let someone else do that one.. not to sharp in hydraulics, but i sorta like just sitting in the shop and thinking of how to improve or make something new, ( like an electric 3 pt hitch for the GT, got an ideal , have to see if it will work) :banghead:
Rollerman 290 #9 Posted October 18, 2008 I kinda look forward to the winter...it's when I get the most time to work on my tractors. My company shuts down over the winter & it's honey doo list/tractor time. I have a small shop & a few keroseen heaters, but going to try a new electric heater this winter....hope it will be cheaper & less smelly than kero.
