SousaKerry 503 #1 Posted November 10, 2014 Well Friday we got an early Christmas present from Sears Holdings Inc. in the form of thanks for your 4 years of service now please go F&^% yourself.Sears Auto determined that my wife was redundant in their new structure. She was terminated with no severance package because she was only part time (that's another story) full time employees got a week of pay per year of service or something like that. You know a store is in serious trouble when they start letting people go before Christmas rush. My wife was the top sales person at the Jackson store on a regular basis for years beating out the full time employees. She trained the department lead, had more time in the department then anyone else, was the only person who was requested to fill in at other stores when they needed help. But none of that mattered to the bean counters in Chicago. They chose based on seniority with the company. The guy they kept had the worst sales, was kicked out of tools cause no-one could work with him, and had previously said he would not take orders from the new female assistant manager. The Jackson store also let go 2 techs and 1 other sales person. The entire Auto Center now has 3 sales people consisting of a Manager an Assistant Manager and a Customer Service Adviser. Good luck Sears in running the place with 3 people. Ok rant over, BTW boycott these jacka$$es and lets watch them go down the toilet.

JC 1965 1,532 #3 Posted November 10, 2014 Sorry to hear about your wife. I think sears has been on their way out for some time now. I took a tool back for replacement to our local store last week an was talking to a guy that works there about how there is never any customers in there. He said they do some business on weekends but are very slow on weekdays. He also said Sears had recently closed the auto center which was located about 1/4 mile from the store. I buy a tool now and then from Sears but only if it's on sale because they are too expensive at regular price.
shallowwatersailor 3,214 #4 Posted November 10, 2014 Unbelievable that this would occur before the Christmas buying season. Years past in my career I have been on strike for 9 weeks, and on unemployment for six months, so I know how it feels. Sears downfall started years ago and then spent big $$$ when they moved to Rolling Meadows. Chicago suffered with the loss of revenue and then they even sold the iconic "Sears Tower" that is now called something else. It really sucks - and may get even worse after this past Tuesday for the little guy.
baerpath 517 #5 Posted November 10, 2014 A close friend is a retired tech from Sears but works part time for spending money. There talking about closing the shop in the Utica NY store. Used to be 8 tech's and they were busy now 2 full time and him. The K mart deal really screwed things up
Geno 1,929 #6 Posted November 10, 2014 Sorry to hear that Sousa. Sears in Lexington just closed the entire big store at the end of the mall and the auto center a few months ago, something is up for sure.
Sparky-(Admin) 23,331 #7 Posted November 10, 2014 Thats crummy news, sorry. I hope she can find something even better than what she had! I do hate to read about a "big" store such as Sears going hill down tho as it just makes companies like Wal-Mart, Target, Home Depot, Lowes etc.. that much more powerful and they wont have to try as hard to please us consumers with less competition out there. My closest Home Depot is almost right next to a Sears Appliance and Hardware and they both sell the same sorta stuff and it probably forces them to be careful how they price stuff. But if the Sears was to fold up you can bet that the Home depot, with no nearby competition, will be able to up their prices and offer less customer service cause they are the only big home hardware store for a few miles. Unless I have to, I find it quicker and easier to stop at a local hardware store on my way home from work. I pass a "Do-It-Best" chain and an Ace Hardware. I can get in, find the couple items I need and be back on the road in less time than it takes to roam the parking lot of Home Depot looking for a spot without a lumber cart sittin it! And the hardware store guys are way more knowledgeable and available than the HD folks. Just my opinion of course.... Mike.............

CasualObserver 3,411 #9 Posted November 11, 2014 That sucks man. Sears closed up here last year too. I think they closed like a week before Christmas if I remember right. Was pretty crazy to see the"store closing" sign on the door right next to the "now hiring" sign because they still needed people to sell through Christmas. The store is nearly rebuilt into a Shields sporting goods now. Opening next spring. Via Tapatalk

HorseFixer 2,013 #11 Posted November 11, 2014 Sorry to here about that Kerry. As Craig said lets hope the man up stairs has some better plans. As for Sears I hate to see an Icon like that go but if there dancin with the Devil and treating people terribly then maybe its time for them to get a taste of their own medicine. I wish you guys well. ~Duke

KyBlue 655 #13 Posted November 13, 2014 Sorry to hear about the loss of employment just before the holidays ... as others have said, lets hope that there is better on the horizon for her. I lost my faith in Sears long ago ... gave away the craftsman tools i had and haven't been into one of their stores in Many Many years (probably 10-12 years) ... and in fact didn't know they closed the one in Lexington ...
