Last Days in Vietnam

RMCIII

Cleveland Clinic/ CEO Dr. Toby Cosgrove is honoring the Vets. on Veterans day with a 30 minute section of this movie

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3279124/

After the 30 minute portion, there will be (2) of the individuals who are portrayed in the movie, actually as the guests speakers. The actual individuals who were in the war.

Just a follow-up to this., The event last night was welll attended. This would be something I would recommend watching. It is truly gripping, and a story that is whipsered about, but this lays it out there for you to see the reality of the war. The portion that was selected to be played was about the US Embassy and them trying to get as many Vietnamese out before the President issued his final order to evacuate. It is truly something that grips the ole heart and tugs on it.

If anyone needs a reminder why the country is truly so great, this will help you remember what we have and why others, want to get here. < That last statement is also a big can of worms within the US right now, but that is a whole different topic.

Yes that is touching. And yes by the same token I am torn on this one.   Humanity is one thing, but being saviors for the free world comes at a cost. And that cost is to the Taxpayers ( not to mention the life's that were lost and the abandoned family's it caused).  :naughty:  We already have enough US Citizens here that were born in this country that think we owe them a living. I was self employed as an HVAC Contractor for 10 years before my present job. My next job opened my eyes to politics and many other things I see that are a waste. You see I have worked 25 years for my local County As a maintenance supervisor 22 of which I was at the Sheriff's Dept/ Jail and seen low life criminals that were on drugs before they were incarcerated getting welfare checks being brought to their cells so they could sign so their wifes and family could cash them. I don't know what the answer is I guess I am not that smart. But you know what? Neither do any of the A HOLES we have put into office either, when they are paid to figure things out so I guess I don't feel so bad!  :eusa-whistle:  I  know one thing, if any of those brothers of ours that gave their life's for this Country knew that their family's would not get benefits from Social Security because we were feeding Illegal Aliens and that has caused  our own Citizens not to get fed and receive benefits because of it, they would roll over in their graves. Same goes for all the Civil War soldiers who gave their life's for freedom. I wonder what they would think if they could look back and see how things turned out? I bet they wouldn't be to happy either.  :disgust:  I wonder if they think giving their life was worth it?  :confusion-shrug:

The decision to go into war or at least some of the ones we have had are handled by people with hidden agendas or have something to gain, many times of which are monetary gains. When I took my oath which is as follows: "I, (state name of enlistee), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God."

I am still trying to figure out what the North Vietnamese did to our Constitution that makes me want to fight and defend it? Lets cut through the chase here, their are allot of Defense Contractors and Stock Holders of these Companies that get Rich over wars Just ask **** Cheney who was the Chairman and CEO of Halliburton Company from 1995 to 2000 before becoming Vice President. There is too much that stinks about all of this. And the problem is we have a Government that cant tell the US Citizens the truth if their life's depend on it. And  thats the sad part of all of it. As I said before I don't have the answer and don't claim to, and I doubt any one else does here either. One thing for sure if any of us do, we sure as h*ll wouldn't be wasting out time on a wheel horse Forum if we were that smart or had that much clout and education.  :)    But thanks for sharing that is sad and really it is.  :crying-yellow: Too dang many sad stories out there thats for sure!

JC 1965

Well I agree with Bod on several of the points he makes. Vietnam is a sore subject for me. I served during the war and lost several friends over there but what really turns my stomach and makes me mad as he$$ is some were taken prisoner and left there by our government to be tortured and used as slaves in rice patties. Imagine graduating high school to get drafted a few months later and end up in a make shift prison camp to be tortured and work in rice patties ( which is human and animal waste over ankle deep ) for the rest of your life. Very difficult to think about. Probably not the place to vent but that's what I think about when Vietnam comes up.

JC my friend you are Spot on!  I Salute You!    :handgestures-salute:  :handgestures-salute:  :handgestures-salute:   Reading you reply, I was just sitting here thinking about something else I see wrong with that picture. I just missed the war ending by 1 year as I graduated High School in 1976 but I remembered the whole ordeal. I don't know about you guys but when you are a Soldier, Marine, Sailor, or Airmen you do what your told. When the Orders were given to evacuate I'm sure it was for US Personnel Only. Doing anything otherwise would have been a blatant disregard of Orders and would have been subject to the penalty of the Uniform Code Of Military Justice and rightfully so. The Equipment that is flown or sailed is made and designed for certain capacities and loads and loading otherwise could have caused major Casualties to our servicemen. I know this personally because I am a pilot and owned my own airplane and there has to be a weight and balance done before takeoff to ensure the safety of passengers. This whole mess stinks to high heaven. And I like you JC am sick of this whole thing. Just as my dad told me many times..... When you start out Bucked up things usually end up that way also.  That's all I got to say about that.    Salute  :handgestures-salute:
