JERSEYHAWG / Glenn 4,487 #28 Posted November 4, 2014 Kohler Engine 7hp - Model K161T - Spec No. 281269J Guys, I wanted to reach out on something. The engine and specs noted above are from a possible donor engine I came across. I know its not a tecumseh but it does look "period correct" would any of you know if this engine would work? And if so,,,,,,where / how could you mount the gas tank. As always, thanks. Glenn

For 1968 every made had a Tecky except the Commando 8, Raider 12, Charger 12 + Electro 12. There was no option for a Kohler on that tractor, or most others in 68.
shallowwatersailor 3,213 #35 Posted November 4, 2014 I'm not sure of dimensions for the fuel tank under the hood but once again look at what other brands used. For example, it cost an arm and a leg for a Gravely fuel tank for a 5000 series but a like size Cub Cadet tank is less than 25% the cost.

They did it. Even though it did not come that way. Thank you. Glenn
JERSEYHAWG / Glenn 4,487 #37 Posted November 4, 2014 Glenn, Does the valve cover on that blue engine have 4 or 5 bolts? Callen...for you..5 Glenn
Ken B 3,116 #38 Posted November 5, 2014 (edited) Glen, that is a swap I would do in a heart beat, no biggie to do it either. You will thank yourself for not getting involved in the Techy. You'll have no engine runnin dizzy headache's too fix, more power, less oil burnin and a better all around engine. While the 500 is a nice tractor to find it ain't a Hemi Super Bird or a Corvette Stingray where originality is a must... Sounds like a win win to me! You can make it look 100% original and that would be very cooll, half the guy's out there won't know the difference anyway. Or... you can answer this call.. JERSEYHAWG Glenn!! Cleanup in aisle 7!!! We have a 6hp Techy that has thrown its rod and we have oil all over the place!!! Sorry Techy guys... it happens.. Edited November 5, 2014 by Ken B
