AMC RULES 37,147 #51 Posted November 8, 2014 You should have asked them if they could ship a tractor Mike.
squonk 42,713 #52 Posted November 8, 2014 I really didn't want to go in there for the bolts. I can get them from Mc-Master - Carr just as fast. But I wanted to save a few pennies and support a local store.

chipwitch 73 #54 Posted November 12, 2014 Mcmaster is an industrial supply. Their products are top of the line, usually. I find their prices to be very affordable for what you get. Compared to the other big industrial supply, Graingers, McMaster is a bargain. I've never been disappointed with their shipping charges personally, except on those occasions where I order a single piece of 6' x 1/4-20 all thread, then the shipping is ridiculous, relative to the contents. I've only known them to charge actual shipping costs, BUT they don't think twice about shipping things from two different locations on two different days in two packages. Their priority is shipping same day, regardless of a few extra dollars to the consumer. Since their target demographic is industry, it kind of makes sense, doesn't it? I use them all the time. I love them. My only complaints are 1) they don't tell you the shipping cost at the time of your order, they just bill your card. It's always a surprise. And 2) they are very secretive about their brands. Most items are sold as "generic," but when the package arrives, it's usually a top brand. I ordered some gas springs from there once and was very concerned I might get some Chinese crap. I called to ask the brand and they refused to tell me. Said, "it was against their policy." I went ahead and ordered them and they turned out to be the brand I wanted in the first place. I've never been disappointed in the quality of anything from there. They lean toward American made, like Grainger while places like Enco and MSC are very big sellers of Chinese crap. You get what you pay for.
squonk 42,713 #55 Posted November 12, 2014 I ordered 10 1/2" x 21/2" fully threaded bolts from Fastenal $ 7.30 ea plus shipping so $ 73.00 plus shipping. Shipping was another 8 bucks I checked with Mcmaster $26.00 plus shipping. I should have gotten the price first ! Thought it would be within a couple of bucks. Goodbye Fastenal!
