Fastenal tractor shipping?

I should also mention that when I informed the counter people at Fastenal, they were insistent that that was my package.  I had to pull the packing slip on the pallet (placed there by the sender for th recipient) to get the number of the shipper, who confirmed that the package was supposed to have been delivered to a different store to some other person who was not me.

This week I will be moving my 11th tractor with Fastenal. Never had a single issue. Strap it to a pallet and go. My local store doesn't have a forklift. The store manager and I slide the pallet and tractor right off my trailer ramp onto the parking lot and use a pallet jack from there. On occasion I strap the pallet to the telephone pole in the lot and slowly pull the car/trailer forward. Slides right off. When I'm picking up, I bring stuff needed to unstrap the tractor, roll the tractor onto my trailer and throw the pallet in the Fastenal pile out back. No need for a forklift either way. Yeah, tracking is not ideal as I don't think they have a great tracking number system, but the way I see it - you pay $175 to get a tractor from Oregon to Connecticut. If I have to wait a few more days or even a week, so be it.

And don't get involved with people at your local store with questions. They typically have no clue. The third party logisitic service is reletively new and most stores have no clue. My local store manager had no idea until he called me the first time saying there was a tractor in his back room. Hahaha. Just fill out the online form and deal with the logistics people. Your local store will learn once it arrives with an invoice attached to it.

My fender pan arrived.  Picked it up, but it had been opened.  I don't understand why that would be necessary.  UPS, Fedex and USPS ship millions of packages without the need to open them.

Because you're talking about a package that came into a retail store on a distribution truck.... I've worked in the back room in retail...where you don't read boxes, you open them.

I'll let Ken answer that.  I don't know if he charged me just for shipping or if he tacked on a little for packaging.  As far as I know, he could have had Fastenal package it.

When I shipped with Fastenal I didn't pay a dime. They charged the buyer when he picked it up.

Bill pacer started this one a while back and got me hooked for large shipments.

You can ship with payment at the time of drop off or pick up. I try to always pay at my store regardless if I'm shipping or recieving. The stores get a kickback at the end of each month based on their 3pl sales. The manager at my store always takes care of me when I buy stuff because I always make sure his store gets credit for my shipments.

Try as I might today, Fastenal wouldn't take my money. 

Their policy is, the receiving party pays the shipping fees upon receipt. 

My first transaction...is on it's way to Indiana.

What I like about them...they don't seem to do a lot of this and after you do it once...they remember who you are and are extremely helpful.  It is like ...they are really there for you.

Ok Craig.  I had a mower deck  -a 36 inch side discharge I sold on Red Square ad.   I did not want to ship but a member asked if I would ship through Fastenal.   I have a local store  three blocks away from my house.    I told the member I would try but he would of course pay all the shipping.    I went to the local Toro dealer to get a wood skid/pallet -which he gave me for free  (most pallets are 48 x 42 ) to fasten the  mower deck down for shipping.   I used  a couple cheaper  tie downs and several  pieces of nylon rope for a very thigh  mower deck tie down .  The  Red Square/member buyer  paid the Fastenal store $125 to ship to PA,   I took the pallet with the  mower deck to the Fastenal store .  I had a friend come along in case we had to lift to store in the store.    The manager  checked on the paperwork  -which is done at a central location and sent to the store (you need to check out the Fastenal website Craig -it's on there somewhere -about shipping ) .  The manager at my store said ok and then proceeded to go get a forklift  and drove to the back of the pickup-lifted the pallet off and put in the store storage.   The Fastenal truck would pick up later.   About ten days later I received an email from the Red Square member/buyer indicating he received the mower deck in good condition and he was very happy!    

 

 

My guess is that you will need to have the seller break down the RJ on a couple pallets to ship to New York!

Craig shipped a C175 seat pan to Indiana for me via Fastenal. He shipped it on Friday, Oct 31 and I received it today. It shipped I believe in a timely manner. Price was over hundred less than the brown trucks (UPS).

I have used them and had only good things to say. But you are at the mercy of the shipping gods as far as how long it takes one twenty to ship one of my diesels up to me from Florida. They are cheap cheap cheap

My local Fastenal has only 1 person with a clue and that's the fork lift guy. He's only there in the morning. They got 2 girls there who know little about the products they sell. You better know what you want when you arrive or forget it. I needed some 1/2" x 21/2"  x 20 fine thread fully threaded bolts the other day and they looked at me like DUH???. Good thing it was in the morning and the forklift dude was there.
