stevebo-(Moderator) 8,330 #1 Posted October 9, 2014 Here is the tractor that I picked up off CL locally. I swapped the front and rear tires off another 520. It came with a very low hour 48" deck, tiller and 520 long snow plow. It has 650 hours and runs really strong. I mowed with it today and the deck is the most quiet and smooth deck I have ever used. I hope to paint up the wheels and buff it out and maybe new decals from Terry.

Tankman 3,518 #9 Posted October 9, 2014 My 520-8 is a Horse, loves work! I often think, "Geeze, wish I had an H!" Only had one automatic, the '73 12hp Kohler. Great Stallion!
PaulC 341 #10 Posted October 9, 2014 I think the quietness of a deck is mainly due to blade balance. I made a cheap homemade balancer with a 3/4 o.d. ball bearing and sharpened and balanced the blades on my 42" rd deck and once I took it back out it just kind of hummed this beautiful tone while it ate up all my grass

stevebo-(Moderator) 8,330 #18 Posted October 10, 2014 No Craig, not that kind of labor. Ken is the man for not only fixing up wheel horses but also out outboards
cruisnblue48 835 #19 Posted October 10, 2014 I wouldn't mind if a 520 jumped up on my trailer and followed me home. Really nice looking tractor for sure.
Ken B 3,163 #20 Posted October 10, 2014 And I see you are now a hub cap kinda guy...
stevebo-(Moderator) 8,330 #21 Posted October 10, 2014 Not too sure about the hubcaps yet. I put them on because the paint on the rims are really bad. I may end up repainting them and installing front and back wheel weights.

peter lena 8,567 #25 Posted January 31, 2023 @stevebo think I would feed that paint , as well as mower deck , with a lubrication rub / soak down first , that would feed and save patina , rub that to a dry stage and it will look like fresh paint , then use a 6" electric palm buffer with cleaner wax , to really retain what you have . once you feed that paint , it will shed moisture like a duck .also do that deck , and clean out and dry that in the sun , then an aerosol lubricant spray down . in the sun , deck heats up dries out and draws in oil to metal , saves deck rot , pete
