Digger 66 3,488 #7 Posted October 5, 2014 (edited) Fixing it or just hot rodding it? Fixing ( well , sort of ) the front cylinder exhibited a bit of piston slap throughout the summer & from what i've researched , it's common & not really a problem once it's warmed up & everything expands to operating temperature but it still drives me nuts . Not sure if it's audible in this video , but I can hear it & that's what matters most . Edited October 5, 2014 by Digger
KyBlue 655 #8 Posted October 5, 2014 Might as well hot rod it while you're fixing it right?
Digger 66 3,488 #9 Posted October 5, 2014 Might as well hot rod it while you're fixing it right? Trust me , I love mod's much as anyone . but with these ( Can-Am's ) any mods are very costly as changes to the ECM are almost always necessary . The only ones who have the software ( B.U.D.S. ) are the dealers & they charge outrageous $ for a re-flash . The mods within my "at home " capabilities have been done . Racinbob 11,919 #10 Posted October 5, 2014 I think it's audible but I might be hearing the wrong thing. Regardless, that exhaust sounds incredible!
Geno 1,929 #11 Posted October 5, 2014 Mean sounding machine Digger.
Digger 66 3,488 #12 Posted October 5, 2014 Thanks fellas ^ ! I'd really like to try putting a one lung 400cc Rotax ( like my " little 400 " Outlander ) engine in a tractor . The single cylinder is torquey as all get out & Makes 28 HP . And it's a simpler setup with no EFI / sensors & other crap .
Digger 66 3,488 #13 Posted October 8, 2014 (edited) Not good ! Only the front piston had wear on the rear skirt . New slugs & rings are headed to the machine shop now along with the jugs . Edited October 8, 2014 by Digger

Digger 66 3,488 #19 Posted October 13, 2014 UPDATE : ....."life's a dance , you learn as you go " ... . Lesson ? Order: Qty. Part Number Product Name Price Line Total 1 420297063 PTO side cam chain $52.48 1 420236350 Chain Guide - Chain Guide $8.10 2 420630210 Gasket - Gasket $8.05 $16.10 1 420651211 Gasket - Gasket $16.23 $16.23 Well, I screwed up . Put the rear piston in backwards . Last V-twin I did was an old shovel-head & the arrows both face forward on those so I assumed........ Guess that's not the case with these . I rolled the motor over & pulled the rear plug & sure enough the electrode was bent . After having returned the ring compressor I borrowed I had to go buy one & turn the piston around . Dropped circlip down into the case & finally retrived with a magnet . Got the rings clocked , piston turned around , tore the base gasket . Somewhere in the process I got the chain bunched up around the bottom & had to pull the PTO side cover ruining that gasket in the process . Decided it was enough & went out & cut the grass . If I was still a drinking guy , I would be several into it by now .
