First pick from the pepper patch!

Recommended Posts

Picked quite a few hot cherry peppers this morning! Put Seriously Sinatra on the satellite, peeling garlic and jarring peppers! I'll have a big pot of tomato sauce and meatballs on the stove before it's all said and done!!! Lol! :-P I'm happy with the way everything has grown this year!

Never seen such a good pepper here as well. Only put out 4 banana peppers

But put them on the shady side of my okra per companion planting guide

And have them running out my blank blank.

Put watering can on nearly every day, three foot tall and producing like crazy

Don't know what to do with them. Any suggestions !!!

Yes! Pickle them! First rinse them and dry them with a towel. Cut your banana peppers into rings, about 1/4" thick and stuff them into jars. Stuff three peeled cloves of garlic down in the sides of the jar. For pint jars, add one teaspoon of pickling salt over top of the peppers, two teaspoons for quarts. In a sauce pan, mix in one part apple cider vinegar to two parts water and bring to a boil. Pour over the peppers and fill jars to the top. Put on the lids and process for ten minutes in a boiling water bath. Sit them on the counter afterwards and listen for the lids to pop...that means they've sealed. After about a week, you should have some delicious peppers! Refrigerate after opening. Enjoy!

Saw that thread Digger...those are some good looking jalapenos! I love peppers very much, hot or sweet! Fried a bunch of sweet peppers, day before yesterday, in vegetable oil, salt, black pepper, oregano, and chopped garlic! Yum yum!!!!

Well e only put out one lonely grande just for a trial run.

Don't put on as many as banana but they are a little fatter

And more meaty and not real hot, I will put out a couple more next year.

Would you have a good recipe for pickled okra?

Now the okra is going crazy , we love it but just can't keep up with it

Either.

Have you raised Swiss chard ? The best greens we've ever had

They will produce clear up till frost.

I just looked up where you live since my wife and I were both born

And raised in Ohio. You live in pretty country. We lived near Lima

And spent a lot of time in old man cave country when we could.

Never raised swiss chard. I did do okra last year. I did it the same way as the peppers. I thought it turned out well. Trick is picking the okra before it gets big and tough. I don't see why you couldn't add some dill or even mustard seed with it to give it a little more of a bite. Yeah, I like it here. Live on a little farm not too far from town. Plenty of room for gardening and messing with the wheel horses. My wife is originally from Dayton, but I think I've made a country girl out of her these past 12 years. Haha!

Just a waiting game now but it won't be long and we will have plenty

Of okra to try. Picked a batch of peppers okra and threw in a sprig or two of

Mint. Dee just washed the whole works put in bag in frig. Couple more shots like that and she will

Be back in business. Just wandered what a sprig of mint now and then would do ???

Sounds like you guys have been busy! Lol. A bit of mint would probably be good in the okra. Give it a shot...if it doesn't do well, then you know not to do it again. That's how I learned...trial and error! Haha! Just picked another batch of cherry and Hungarian wax peppers, so I'll be busy tomorrow myself! :-)

Hey buddy. Wife is really getting into canning again.

She just done 12 pints of okra.

She found a recipe that had lemon slices and

A whole raft of other pices and such

No telling what these will be like but will let you know.

About another big batch of peppers ready to pick.

Had scrambled eggs with okra in this morning.

Time to try the peppers now, been bout a week and

A half now so they should be ready.

I don't want to take this thread over but figured there are probably some experts here .

Can anyone identify the little guy in the first picture ?

I planted so many different kinds & some of them almost died on me .

But as the heavens had it , they started bearing fruit !!

I think I remember "Scotch-Bonnet" on the package for the juveniles in the second pic .

Any help would be welcomed .

Hey Digger...the first pic looks to be either a green or red chili pepper. The second pic does resemble the scotch bonnet, also known as a "scotty bon", which is a cousin to the habanero, so they will be hot! They are a Caribbean pepper...hope this helps! :-P
