Nathanielperz 150 #4 Posted August 3, 2014 is 4.00-12 too small for the front of my 1276? and where can I get Rims for the tires?
AMC RULES 36,961 #5 Posted August 3, 2014 For the rims you need... try placing a "wanted" ad in the classifieds.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 10,568 #6 Posted August 3, 2014 is 4.00-12 too small for the front of my 1276? and where can I get Rims for the tires? I suspect 4.00-12 is too big. That 12 is likely the 12" wheel diameter. Your front wheels should be 8" and 4" sounds too narrow. Original tires were 16 x 5.50-8. That is 16" outside diameter, 5.5" wide for 8" wheel. Nathanielperz 150 #7 Posted August 4, 2014 how about 4.00-8? would that fit the rims I already have? the height is 16.42in
AMC RULES 36,961 #8 Posted August 4, 2014 What is the size on it now Nate?
Nathanielperz 150 #9 Posted August 4, 2014 The manufacturer lists the specs as 16.42" tall, 4.21" section width (at the widest sidewall bulge) when mounted on a 8" diameter rim 3" wide. JOIN THE CHAT GUYS ITS FASTER
pacer 3,160 #10 Posted August 4, 2014 (edited) To give you some perspective, the 400x8 is whats on wheelbarrows so theyre probably not gonna look right mounted on your tractor. Theyd probably go on your rims OK but just look too small. I like the look of 5.70x8's and have them on 3 of my tractors including one D-180 --- might check them out, theyre pretty reasonably priced and there are gobs of offerings on ebay, they are shown as a trailer tire. Martin 2,130 #11 Posted August 4, 2014 (edited) the 4.00-8 will work on your fronts if they are original 1276. the front wheels on the 60s tractors, and into the early 70s, were narrower than the later 5.38" later ones. if you want to see how 4.00-8 look on standard mid to late 60s fronts here is a pair on my sons 875......... this subject has been discussed before......... Martin 2,130 #14 Posted August 4, 2014 The size is 4.00-8, not all tires are sized like 16 x 6.50-8. They are 4 inches wide and for a 8 inch wheel.
Nathanielperz 150 #15 Posted August 4, 2014 oh ok thank you Martin. so the rim has to be 4 in wide and 8in tall?
Nathanielperz 150 #16 Posted August 4, 2014 if the rim is like I said before.... (4in wide and 8in tall) will those tires fit? Thanks, Nate
Nathanielperz 150 #17 Posted August 4, 2014 The original tires are 5.50-8 but I don't know if the tires or rims are original. If they are will those tires still fit the rims?
Martin 2,130 #18 Posted August 4, 2014 How about measuring the wheel you have and we can go from there!
Pullstart 60,245 #19 Posted August 4, 2014 if you mount these yourself use a 1" ratchet strap around the center of the tire to balloon it out. it'll help the tire pop on the wheel with ease! To hold the wheel in place I put a solid round bar in my vice and it worked slick.

Nathanielperz 150 #21 Posted August 4, 2014 How about measuring the wheel you have and we can go from there! the rim is 4.5 in wide from outer edge to outer edge 3.75 in wide from inner edge to inner edge 9in tall from outer edge to outer edge -Nate
Martin 2,130 #22 Posted August 4, 2014 without pics i can't tell for sure if they are early front rims, but they sound like it by those measurements. i would have no problems recommending the 4.00-8 Deestones for those rims.
Nathanielperz 150 #23 Posted August 4, 2014 So you think that they would fit?

gwest_ca-(File Mod) 10,568 #25 Posted August 5, 2014 3.75 in wide from inner edge to inner edge - This is how the width of all wheels are measured 9in tall from outer edge to outer edge - So the edges are 1/2" tall. - Wheel diameter is measured at the inside of the wheel edges making it an 8" wheel.
