Serial Number question and need parts

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HI all,

I am working on my 704 and the recoil rope was broke. I took everything apart and the recoil spring was broke too. I fixed the rope, but need the spring now. Does anyone know where I can get one or the part number?

The serial number does not seem to be from 1964 and the recoil assembly seems to be an eaton, but I see no name on it other than a couple of part numbers.

504-1 and 504-2.

Here aer the model numbers and serial numbers

K161T

spec no

28937E

serial number 749744.

The serial number is only 6 digit which does not seem to match the regular Kohler numbers.

Am I looking at something wrong.

Thanks for your help

Terry

If the recoil housing looks like this:

then you will need P/N 231705-S spring.

While you're in there, you should also replace the brake (P/N 231689-S) - the spring steel "fingered" cup that pushes on to the back of the pawl retainer.

Make sure you use thread locker on the center bolt when reassembling.

Hi,

Thanks thats what it looks like. Is that a complete assembly that you have pictured. It looks brand new.

Thanks again.

That's only a NOS housing. I do have some NOS internals, but not enough to put it together yet. :banghead:

Hi Terry, I'm not a fan of rope starters, but I can assure you that TT gave you very sound advice.

As for the responses you got on that other tractor forum, I wouldn't do that. Heating and rebending the spring will change it's length and tension, etc.

My $.02.

Eldon.
