oldtin 921 17 #1 Posted July 4, 2014 Is there any way to tell the size of a deck by the length of the blades? I just bought a 418C and was told the deck was a 42 inch SD but the blades are smaller than my 42 RD!
daveoman1966 3,628 #2 Posted July 5, 2014 The blades for a 42" SD are different from a 42" RD deck.
can whlvr 991 #3 Posted July 6, 2014 the blade size for a 42 side is 14 inches, and the 48 side is 16 inches
skrusins 128 #4 Posted July 6, 2014 I think a 42 sd is 13 7/8 and 42 rd is14 1/
oldtin 921 17 #5 Posted July 6, 2014 The blades on the deck I got with the tractor are 131/2 or 13 5/8??
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 10,524 #6 Posted July 6, 2014 Blades are measured diagonally from cutting tip to cutting tip. The 42" SD blades in 1987 have a 3/4" hole and listed as 14" long - Toro 3-blade set #106636 for deck model 05-42MS05 The 42" RD blades in 1987 have a 3/4" hole and listed as 14-1/2" long - Toro 3-blade set #106635 for deck model 05-42MR04 The recycler decks use a different blade again. oldtin 921 17 #7 Posted July 6, 2014 Ok so it must not be a 42 inch deck so what size is it,I need to get a couple spindles because they are deteriorating!
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 10,524 #8 Posted July 6, 2014 They don't list a 36" deck for the 418-C likely because it won't clear the rear wheels so that leaves a 48in deck. The 1987 36" rear discharge deck uses Toro 3-blade set #107983 for deck model 05-36MR04 Left and right blades 12-1/8" long Center blade 14-1/8" long Is there room for a 14" or 14-1/2" blade to turn? Perhaps the wrong blades are on it. Garry
oldtin 921 17 #9 Posted July 6, 2014 No room for a 14" blade, I don't think this is the correct deck for the tractor. What I am trying to do is fix this deck and put it on a 88 310-8 for my son-in-law to use.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 10,524 #10 Posted July 7, 2014 The last 36" SD deck was in 1983 and it used the same blades as the rear discharge above so rules that one out. The only decks for the C-Series are 36in SD 36in RD 37in SD has 2 blades 42in SD 42in RD 48in SD 60in SD Garry

oldtin 921 17 #14 Posted July 8, 2014 Computer stupid!! I would if I knew how! I found a number on the blades,15536,if that means anything.
