RMCIII 838 #1 Posted July 2, 2014 What can the group inform me of the 953 model? I have a chance to pick one up. Seems like a very cheap price for a model that was only made for 1yr. Are parts interchangable from other models? Rob
"D"- Man 827 #2 Posted July 2, 2014 (edited) The 953 was only made for 1 year (1963) however; they had a mid year change to the model. The early tractors had headlights, steering wheel/Ross gearbox, and a 9.6 HP engine that were unique to the model. Later 953 tractors were very similar to the 1054 models. Many of the parts will exchange. Some parts from the GT-14 may even work on a 953. Mark. Edited July 2, 2014 by TWIN54
JUSS10 250 #3 Posted July 2, 2014 If you have the chance to buy one, I would. I have a 1054 and love the tractor. As far as parts, I have yet to break anything (and I have really beat on the machine) Most 953, 1054, and 1054A parts should he interchangeable. There are a few unique parts between them but I haven't had any issues. Its a great machine if the price is fair. Justin
jeremi3210 742 #4 Posted July 2, 2014 My 953 is one of my favorite tractors I have. I've modified mine a little with a 8 speed 8pinion trans.
953 nut 59,903 #5 Posted July 3, 2014 I also love the 953. Both of mine are great and they are so far from most other Garden Tractors that they stand out at the shows. Buy It!
RMCIII 838 #6 Posted July 4, 2014 Thanks guys. I will let you know if I do pull the trigger on it. Very reasonably priced, I think! Rob
papaglide 542 #7 Posted July 4, 2014 I like the looks of those. The rear fenders make it look like a mini farm tractor, plus I really like the combo of gear drive with hydro lift. That's my ideal combination.
