userj8670 68 #1 Posted June 26, 2014 My girlfriend and I have been hearing this bird in the morning and somewhat in the day and it's call sounds like it's saying dorito dorito dorito. I thought it was a female cardinal but that doesn't seem to be it. Any ideas?
stevasaurus 23,089 #2 Posted June 26, 2014 (edited) Sorry...I just could not resist. Seriously though...a Robin kind of sounds like that, and they love to sing in the morning. Edited June 26, 2014 by stevasaurus
userj8670 68 #3 Posted June 26, 2014 It's not a Robin or a jay or a cardinal or chickadee I know that much lol
rmaynard 15,935 #4 Posted June 26, 2014 Google the National Audubon Society. They have recordings of the calls of all known birds. If you can't ID it there, it can't be ID'd. Sent from my Moto G using Tapatalk
Flatheadpete 183 #5 Posted June 26, 2014 (edited) Is it more of a do REET oh...? If so, that's a cardinal. I'm pretty darn good with birds.....An audio clip would seal the deal. Edited June 26, 2014 by Flatheadpete
oldredrider 2,553 #6 Posted June 26, 2014 Ok flathead, what bird keeps repeating "up a tree"? Seriously this bird is driving my wife nuts! She can't get a bead on it, but if she does........

userj8670 68 #9 Posted June 27, 2014 Is it more of a do REET oh...? If so, that's a cardinal. I'm pretty darn good with birds.....An audio clip would seal the deal. You nailed it! However the audio clips of cardinals that I have heard don't sound like it unless maybe I'm listening to the wrong type of call or maybe it's female?
Flatheadpete 183 #10 Posted June 27, 2014 Ok flathead, what bird keeps repeating "up a tree"? Seriously this bird is driving my wife nuts! She can't get a bead on it, but if she does........ up..uh..TREEEE? Eastern Wood-Pewee. Cool lil birds.

Flatheadpete 183 #12 Posted June 27, 2014 Is it usually later in the day....dusk?
oldredrider 2,553 #13 Posted June 27, 2014 No. Usually morning and afternoon. Never late afternoon. My wife came up with " up a tree" and that's exactly what it sounds like.
Flatheadpete 183 #14 Posted June 30, 2014 If you have the capability check out the Merlin Bird ID app. It's a really nice, simple to use app that has , so far for me, been pretty accurate. I'm still racking my brain on the 'up a tree' bird!
oldredrider 2,553 #15 Posted July 3, 2014 OK, downloaded the app but it wants to know what it looks like. That's the problem, I don't know. Might just remain a mystery....
posifour11 723 #16 Posted July 5, 2014 Bobwhite quail in your area?
Digger 66 3,488 #17 Posted July 6, 2014 It's not a bird , Jim . It's the 350 X beckoning ! Seriously , I've noticed increasing numbers of Orioles in the WNY area .
oldredrider 2,553 #18 Posted July 6, 2014 Went thru ALL the bird calls in the app. Can't find any bird that has that call/song. It's not a Bob White...has a 3 syllable call. Definitely not a Whipporwill. Still guessing.
AMC RULES 37,147 #19 Posted July 6, 2014 Can you take a short video while it's calling... so we can hear it too?
oldredrider 2,553 #20 Posted July 6, 2014 Tried to take a video/audio yesterday but phone didn't pick up audio well enough to post. Will try again.
oldredrider 2,553 #21 Posted July 20, 2014 (edited) Got an audio of "up a tree" bird but having trouble posting in with tapatalk. I'm working on it! Edited July 20, 2014 by oldredrider
AMC RULES 37,147 #22 Posted July 20, 2014 We have Catbirds that nest here every year... pretty interesting creatures, considering they can mimic virtually sound they come in contact with...cats meows, other birds, believe it or not...we've even awakened to them doing a pretty good car alarm first thing in the morning. oldredrider 2,553 #23 Posted July 20, 2014 Y'know Craig, I've been leaning toward the catbird as being the caller. Can't ever get an eye on this bird though. We do have an abundance of them around here and they do have the right pitch.
AMC RULES 37,147 #24 Posted July 20, 2014 Ours here are pretty quiet later in the day/dusk... seem to make all their noise early in the morning.
oldredrider 2,553 #25 Posted July 21, 2014 This afternoon when I got the audio recording, the bird was "talking" to another one doing the same call about 100 yards away. Dueling catbirds? Kind of unlikely, I think, but I really think it's a different bird. I have tried unsuccessfully to load the audio on here from my phone. Tapatalk won't cooperate.
