Brinly plow will not lift up

Recommended Posts

Wh416H

I have a 416-H with a brinly plow It would lift earlier and now I have to pull up on it to get it to come up all the way. Could it be the oil is getting hot and getting thinned out to much

When was the oil changed last? You may want to try Mobil 1

The hydraulic lift cylinder doesn't seem to be leaking

Did you put a new filter on? How is the fluid level, sometimes these hydros can be a bit trifling to refill.

I would recommend the Toro tranny filter (I believe it to be a true hydro filter) and Mobile 1 synthetic, 10w-30 oil.

Does it lift without the weight of the Plow?

When it goes all the way up and the plow isn't all the way up  - Is the Lift Cylinder Fully closed?

I'm wondering if the lift cable has stretched ...

When the plow is up all the way the cylinder is closed all the way it has to be the cylinder or the valve is shot

My money is on the linkage and the small braided cable that's lifting that heavy plow having stretched.

If the cylinder is fully actuating, then it isn't the cylinder. If it wasn't fully closing them yeah I'd suspect a Hydro system issue.

Check the simple things first before you year into the lift cylinder...

Okay I didn't read your initial post that way, I read it as that it'd lift it just not fully.

Before you rebuild anything, might want to have the pressures tested ... call a local hydraulic shop and talk with them. Might have to bring the unit in to them and let them put some gauges in line to see what is going on.

 Hope it's a simple fix ..

Curious if you ever got to the bottom of this one.  I went to a plow day this weekend with my C-160 and after a couple rounds I had to pull up on the plow manually to get it lift.  Once raised it would hold it there.  After sitting a while it worked normal again.  I also wondered if it was related to oil temperature.
