RMCIII 838 #1 Posted April 13, 2014 So, yesterday was a beautiful day in Cleveland.... My neighbor was working on my Caddy.. New A/C pump, rear rotors and pads... So I decide to liven up the work atmosphere... I go and get some morters.. 2" morters to be percise.. I light the first one off, and it rocks the garage..... Beautiful display in the sky. Next one is a nice red, white and blue crackling... The 3rd one was purple and gold diamonds. Just as we light the 4th one off, up pull 3 squad cars and 5 officers... You have got to be kidding me... They said someone complained about gun shots.... Really!!! Gun shots.. Come on. There is a HUGE difference between the sound of a gun and 2" morters. So the cops ask for ID's/ I tell the cops it was all on me and everyone else there had nothing to do with it.. I walk back to one of the squad cars to give the office all my information.... One of the cops ask me, "so are there any warrents out for you that I am going to find?" I said no, no warrents on any of us... Well, little did I know my neighbors brother decided to skip court on Thursday... I hear on the scanner the guys name and there is a warrent for his arrest for a traffic violation... Now I really fell like an a$$... Had it not been for me shooting off the morters the cops never would have came....What a day breaker... The kicker to it is all summer last year someone was shooting some sort of fireworks off...I never saw any squad cars come and investigate any of the firworks last year...They end up giving me a ticket, that I have to go appear in court for the fine... No fines listed on the ticket anymore, just a court date and a time. WOW, what a way to now even make more money for the goverment that is already a mess... So I now have no right to just pay the fine, I am forced to appear in court, pay a fine, and court fees.... Just for lighting some fireworks off..... Yet some guy selling dope on the streeets may get arrested, may not, and he or she is back on the streets the same day.... I sure am glad I dedicated 4 years of my life for this fine country...... What a hoot.... Any way... April 25th if the court date....Stay tuned!!!!!
Sparky-(Admin) 23,128 #2 Posted April 13, 2014 Bummer! What was the charge on the ticket? Was the court date for the fireworks or harboring a fugitive ? Were the fireworks illegal? Here in Ct some are legal and some are not, I don't know the details of which are and which aren't. Mike...........
neil 2,410 #3 Posted April 13, 2014 That really sucks . I was pulled over in my Landrover by the cops the other day & was issued with a $200 fine for not wearing my seat belt , then i read in the local newspaper that a local known Drug dealer was fined $50 for selling drugs to school children & $20 for stealing a push bike . doesnt make sense ,
RMCIII 838 #4 Posted April 13, 2014 There is no charge on the ticket.... I just have the court date... A box is checked for domestic disturbance.... I guess that would be the charge....I guess they are illegal, but if they are, they should stop selling them in Ohio....Phooey on it..... If a little fireworks are going to bring the police around, next time, I'll make sure to launch the 3" morters instead.... Wait until the 4th of July...If they thought those sounded like gun shots, then the 3" will sound like cannons...... Maybe I'll find some 1/4 sticks and light a couple of those off also...... Right, and just as the cops pulled up, his brother told him "I did not appear in court Thursday, they are probably going to arrest me".... At least they allowed him to walk to the car without his hands being cuffed... I asked them to let the guy have a little dignity as they were arresting him... Believe it or not, they did... They waited until they had him at the car, then they put the cuffs on him...... What a day......

squonk 43,728 #6 Posted April 13, 2014 (edited) You can thank all the hysteria on the news outlets. They drum up and sensationalize every little thing nowadays that everyone is paranoid and on edge. You have talk radio with the us vs. them theme all the time ect. Someone complains about a gun shot sound and it's a mass shooting in everyone's eyes and the cops have to respond accordingly. I live in a small town. We had what was considered a small gang war going on between my neighbors kids and some kids from a nearby small city. 2:00 am out side of my house they are fighting. I get outside not knowing what's going on but My light scared them off. Next night I hear a BOOM and wake up. sounds like a gunshot and I see cars speeding off. I call 911 and tell them I think I heard a gunshot. I had 10 police cars there in a min.Turned out someone from the city came and destroyed the neighbors car windshield with an ax and a brick Edited April 13, 2014 by squonk

RMCIII 838 #8 Posted April 13, 2014 I can understand that, but where I live, it is extremly quiet, and the only time you see a cop is when they are driving through on the main street.... You never see them on the side streets or even hear a siren. They did not even use there lights when they pulled up... And they know the neighborhoods where they could expect to get a call for gun shots... We think it was just a neighbor that was to lazy to come out and just ask us to keep it down... No, I'll call the cops on them.,.... Here is the real kicker, the cop asks, "Did you know it is against the law to shoot the fireworks off, between April 1st and August 1st". Then he shows me this paper that actually has the dates listed... So me being the wise guy, I pipe up and respond, "well shucks I guess August 2nd will be riot then".. The cops just looked at each other and then me... One of them shakes his head, and responds, "I guess we walked into that one".. I was suprised they actually admitted saying something dumb like that.... Hey maybe it will be on TV, course I'm not wanted, so that won't make a very juicy story..... dodgemike 52 #18 Posted April 13, 2014 RMC, we are neighbors almost. I live in Stow just north of Akron. I have purchased fireworks in our great state, and they make you sign a form stating you wont set them off in Ohio. HUH! Then dont sell them in Ohio! RMCIII 838 #19 Posted April 13, 2014 I just found out what/why there were 3 squad cars and 5 officers on the scence so quickly... My neighbor across the street was talking with my wife... She said there was a big party that was just on the other side of her lot... Seems they got a little loud and the police were called.... Well, as they were leaving the party, they must have heard us when the 4th morter was launched...It makes senes, why would you have so many squads just to investigate a lound noise.... Mike - yes were are close..What I am still puzzled about is the paper the cops showed me that fireworks are illegal from April 1st to August 1st. I am still trying to figure that one out... Certianly makes no sense, but whatever, it's still not going to stop me from having 1 nice 4th of July display....

dodgemike 52 #21 Posted April 13, 2014 After the police in your good city fired 139 rounds into a car that back fired i think they are a little "gun shy". Granted the people should have stopped. Stow is the same way. The younger officers just are not like the older guys who would give you a warning. I am not a Police basher either. A lot of my friends are officers, most are retired. You could not pay me enough to be an officer in this day and age. It is a thankless job. Sent from my SCH-S720C using Tapatalk 2

RMCIII 838 #23 Posted April 26, 2014 (edited) As they say, :had my day in court". All I can say is "the judical system is truly, truly screwed up". I do not say that becasue of the judgement that was handed down. I say that becasue I watched an entire coutroom filled with repeat offenders plead "not guilty" or "no contest". Those who pled "no contest" were given a chance to expound on the situation before the judge imposed his fines/fees/sentencing. I am called to the stand. He tells me what the max I can receive. $250.00, fine, 30 days jail time to start right a way, and court costs. I plead "no contest" and wait for the judge to ask what the situation was.. He looks directly at me and says " you realize the fine and jail time you are facing by pleading no contest?" I reply yes and wait for him to ask, just as he did all the rest of the people before me, what the situation was. He says $250.00 fine, plus court costs and a guilty plea is entered on your behalf... I was shocked to not even be given the opportunity to share what went on that evening.... I sat back down and continued to watch the remaining people be asked the situation when they pled "no contest"... I just wonder if my skin color had something to do with this situation. I am serious. There were exactly 5 white individuals in the court room. 3 of which were there to support the 1 indiviudal who needed to be there. I made number 5... All the rest were of African/American decent. The Judge, African/American. Everyone, and I mean everyone, that was there to see the judge was dressed as disrespectfully as they could possibly be without being asked to leave the courtroom. Not me... I am dressed in my usual work/dress attire. Full suite, dress shirt, minus the tie, that stayed in the car. I watched him communicate to several repeat offenders of the same class #4 misdomener offence. Gave them anywhere from a $50.00 fine to a $100.00 fine...... after they were allowed to speak their peace..... Again, not upset with the overall fine, if I would have been given an opportounity to expound on the situation.... I watched a courtroom full of disrespectful individuals speak to, what I later found out, was the raining judge of Cleveland, say things like "well-um, yah, ya-see, i, um, ect....." and nothing but what I would call grace was extended to those individuals. Who were repeats. How did I know, becasue the judge would say, "I see you again, in my courtroom today?" Yeah, just a little upset about the whole process... $377.00 dollars, gulity plea entered on my behalf, and no chace to speak...... That is exactly what I gave 4 years of my life, to this country for.. To watch others that don't give a rats ass about being respectful, showing respect, honoring respect, learinging respect, and most of all Freedom of Speach and the right to speak on my behalf in the courtroom..... I'm done with this, but I am not done with the Cleveland judicial system.... A letter is going to be sent to my congressman about this wonderful expierence. bowtieguy 334 #24 Posted April 26, 2014 On a serious note...you better get an attorney and fight it...why?...because you are probably on a federal "watch list" now because of the explosives....the next time you go to an airport be prepared for more trouble....and don't even think about crossing the border into Canada...(jail time for sure) Yep, few appreciate the years we vets served for 64 bucks a month for what we know as FREEDOM....its slowly slipping away.....I don't care where our politicans were born, its where they live now is the problem.
