hutchie 3 #1 Posted March 26, 2014 ive just started working on another one of our wheelhorses and it is failing to spark, can someone tell me the proper setting for the points? or are they set when they arrive as a new part? reason i ask is they have been changed before by my wifes uncle and im unsure if they were set right? can you also tell me how i can check a distributer? Ed Kennell 36,037 #2 Posted March 26, 2014 The manual says 0.020 inches gap. I try to set mine so 0.019 inch feeler guage will go and 0.020 inch will not go. Make sure the piston is at top dead center when you set the gap. They are not set at the factory. Just loosen the screw holding the points in place enough to allow you to use a screw driver as a pry to adjust the gap, then tighten the screw.
rmaynard 14,945 #3 Posted March 26, 2014 What is the model number of the engine?" The points are initially set to .020".on a single cylinder engine. No they are not pre-set, you have to set them with a feeler gauge
