Hodge71 665 #1 Posted February 7, 2014 Well I got the ol' girl out the farm yesterday and plowed with her today…. at least til the plow stopped raising. I can see the mid lift cylinder moving in and out but the rockshaft isn't going up and down….. Tranny is full of go go juice..actually about an 1/8 inch over full…Is it possible its is too full or would it be possible that I snapped the rockshaft? Any other possible causes that I should know about…. I didn't have time to do much research as to the cause today and would like to have an idea where to start digging tomorrow morning. Thanks for all the help guys…..
brandonozz 168 #2 Posted February 8, 2014 Jeff, I bet its something simple like a pin came out or sheared off as those bellcrank/rockshaft's are pretty heavy duty.
pfrederi 18,696 #3 Posted February 8, 2014 If the cylinder rod is moving in and out then I do not think it is a hydro issue. I agree with Brandon maybe a pin fell out...
Hodge71 665 #4 Posted February 8, 2014 Well I wish I could say it was good news….as you can see my 1 piece shaft is 2 pieces now. It frustrating to do all this work and finally get to use it and this happens. No clue how this thing could break especially as I use a chain on my plow instead of a solid link. I guess maybe someone before me possibly used a mid grader or possibly a solid link ….I guess it will be pondering how to fix this situation because it was a torsional break and therefore nothing really lines up the way it was intended due to the way it twisted when it broke….I guess the ole girl will be down for the count for awhile….. brandonozz 168 #5 Posted February 9, 2014 (edited) Wow Jeff sorry for your luck. That wasn't what I was expecting but on second thought I guess I shouldn't be too surprised. I have two D's (a runner and a parts tractor) and one of the bellcranks (on one of the tractors) is not factory so I guess the PO had broke it at some point. Get these tractors weighted down and moving and then hang something like a grader blade on a rock or tree stump and something is going to give. Good luck getting it going. Trouty56 567 #6 Posted February 9, 2014 I saw a post for one is the for sale section....since you use a chain for a lift and most likely need a replacement I would weld it solid for now...... Just won't have any float with the rockshaft.....the chain will suffice....
Hodge71 665 #7 Posted February 9, 2014 Weld it solid Bob? As in weld all the arms together? If thats all it takes I'll give that a shot tomorrow….
wheeledhorseman 579 #8 Posted February 10, 2014 Looks like that's taken some abuse over the years by POs Jeff. As Bob said you don't need float if you're using a chain and it's designed so you can lock it solid with a pin for certain uses anyway I think. Shouldn't be difficult to find a replacement in the long run on your side of the pond in as far as I know all Ds came with a mid mount lift but the 3-point was an option. The overal problem is that the spec was only Cat 0 which hasn't taken the punishment owners have subjected their tractors to. Hodge71 665 #9 Posted February 12, 2014 Well She's all back together and not a moment too soon… Straightened and welded everything up and got her back together tonight at 6 PM….Had to make a new lift chain as the one that was on there was 5 links too short once I had welded everything square and in their proper position. Much better now and if it breaks after this I will be beside myself in disbelief….. Its amazing how misleading pics can be…Those welds looked a whole lot better in real life….. oh well….
brandonozz 168 #10 Posted February 13, 2014 Glad you got it going Jeff. It doesn't matter what them welds look like as long as they hold (especially since no one will see them under the tractor).
wheeledhorseman 579 #11 Posted February 13, 2014 Looks as though that should hold Jeff. I remember from doing my 3-point that getting a textbook weld on the shaft down in between the flat bars is pretty much impossible. Andy
