philpjuk 19 #26 Posted January 29, 2014 (edited) My C101 has no problem with my old cars or the same trailer loaded high with logs.As most of the towing is done on a sloping grass site I keep the wheelhorse in low ratio and have the trailer over run brake engaged and it has not "got away" from me yet.I also use it to pull dinghys up the slipway at the end of the garden but sometimes it starts to spin it`s wheels and I have to resort to a winch powered by the wheelhorse battery with the tractor fastened to a tree with a rope sling!. shorts 182 #27 Posted February 3, 2014 No problem just remember size rules and the 5k trailer will be in control. a brake controller wont work unless you have enough mass to actuate the pendulum inside, just wire up a 12v on/off switch to the trailer brakes to apply them, either full on or full off, no modulation. danno676 34 #29 Posted July 28, 2014 I move my boat around flat paved surfaces with 416H all the time without an issues. Total weight of the rig shown is probably close to 3500lbs. I do keep the trailer jack wheel close to the ground in case something goes wrong, but it hasn't....yet. What is the tongue weight of that boat? I've been moving my camper around with mine using a rear hitch but want to do something different, like what you have there. Tongue weight of the camper is 400 ish and total weight is 3000. I was curious how much weight the attach a matic and the hitches made for them could handle.
zieg72 209 #30 Posted July 28, 2014 My 520H moved that kind of load and more. In reading everyones comments I haven't seen a concern that I would have using an electric brake controller with the 520H charging system. I wouldn't risk hooking it up to the tractors electrical, I would use a separate car battery.
Don1977 604 #31 Posted July 29, 2014 My trailer weights about 1400 lbs. Might have 200 lbs of brush on it that about all I want to move on a slope.
546cowboy 302 #32 Posted July 30, 2014 (edited) There is no way I would move a 5000 lb. trailer with a 520 on flat ground. If there is any kind of an incline you are just asking for a major problem. I value my Horses too much to chance one to a 'Murphy's Law' stunt like that. With the way my luck runs it's hard to say what might happen. alswagg 128 #33 Posted July 30, 2014 This is no big deal. Your idea of a dedicated hitch is nice. I also would suggest adding liquid to the tires, lower your center a gravity, plus adds alot of traction. I pull 35' boats 18k lbs with my 18hp Duetz. Larger than your tractor but you have plenty of power and stability. 5k lbs is light. Adding brakes is a nice touch also. Al
alswagg 128 #34 Posted July 30, 2014 What do you think the Air Horse was built for??? Hauling and pulling aircraft. Much more than 5K lbs. The Air Horse was based on a much smaller chassie than the 520 as well. Al
shorts 182 #35 Posted August 2, 2014 Airhorse was built to move small/light aircraft on clean level usually paved surfaces with known consistant friction/traction
alswagg 128 #36 Posted August 2, 2014 Yep commonly used on small grass fields. Pull your heart out
can whlvr 993 #37 Posted August 3, 2014 the air horse was built on a c basis, the 520 isn't much different,i have an 1800 lb tandem trailer and its too much for my horses unless its dry, flat and im weighted up with chains,i moved it today to work on the brakes and there was dew on the grass, trying to stop is scary, there just isn't enough weight,i like the separate battery and controller just for moving around
