Save Old Iron 1,568 #26 Posted January 31, 2014 (edited) I hear you Jim. I can't ell you how many people toss out good computer monitors for the sake of one or two bad (leaky or puffy) caps. The indicator board just has one logic chip and a few driver transistors for the bulbs. Safety switches wire directly to pull up resistors on the IC inputs - a no brainer. No caps tho - they got that reliability concern right! Last ECM I did was from a 96 Dodge Caravan with a blown control transistor. I had to dig thru 1/2" of clear silicon to get it but it did work - and saved my friend a few hundred dollars for a new one. Graeme 7 #27 Posted January 31, 2014 Thanks for straightening me out on the bulbs, I had this mistaken idea that the bulbs were somehow soldered onto the circuit board so I was hesitant to pull one off. I bet I can find one that works at the local auto parts store. Seems like I remember dash bulbs being a similar size.
JERSEYHAWG / Glenn 4,498 #28 Posted January 31, 2014 Ok. My ending. Pic of my circuit board. Still looks in ok shape. There are a couple bulbs on ebay. Pricey. About 8 to 9 bucks with shipping. For those looking. I lucked out and found a NEW BULB . Last one he had. 4 bucks. I will keep the old one and suggest others do to. The valuable rubber boot the bulb is in. Find a bulb that will work you still have the rubber boot to push on the circuit board. Glenn
