C100 Snow Thrower question

I tried to mount my snow thrower on my 1975 C100 8 speed, with a manual lift. The thrower fits on a 1979 C141 automatic with hydraulic lift.  The C100 is the same size as the C141 but I can not get the belt on the pulleys, and the manual lift will not lock in the up position, and stay up. Will I have to get a shorter lift tube to make this work?
