Martin 2,133 #1 Posted January 6, 2014 Right now I'm shopping for a new pair of gloves for snowplowing/plowing duties. Had a nice pair, not sure what they were, Columbia or similar, remember they were spendy. Thats not a problem, except when i have kids that take them and can't remember where they left them or just won't own up to taking them, depending on which one you talk to. I have a new hiding spot and have been using just the local farm store offerings, which I'm not real impressed with. today was hopeless, 30 minutes outside and my hands where so cold i wanted to throw in the towel. Ive been told to look at some of the snowmobiler type gloves, but theres so many to choose from. Just wondering what the members on here use. Good or bad comments welcome, just want to get a better idea of whats good or not in the members eyes for plowing or snowplowing while on our tractors....... dclarke 4,082 #2 Posted January 6, 2014 I use an old pair of snowmobile mittens they I've had for years. I put those "hot hands" hand warmer in them, works well for me.
Martin 2,133 #3 Posted January 6, 2014 i was looking at mittens denny, do you have enough dexterity with them? most of the gloves I've had in the past, the fingers were so padded that you didn't have much 'feel' with them anyway.
sorekiwi 761 #4 Posted January 6, 2014 Another vote for the hand warmer packs. I don't really know why but the last few years my hands start to ache like hell when they get cold. The hand warmers help a lot, as does a liberal dose of Jack Daniels afterwards.

Kelly 1,033 #6 Posted January 6, 2014 I have been using Kinco brand for a number of years, my Brother got me a pair from a Engineer of a rail car, I used them about 6-7 years and have about worn them out, I googled them and bought a few pair they run about $20 a pair, with shipping, they are very soft I think pig skin, lined with a heatkeep insulation, they have a liner in them so they are some what water proof, and my old ones are very well oiled so even more water proof, they have different style cuffs but I like these with my Carhartt coat, ( I also like the artic lined Carhartt's ) my son has a pair of these gloves and uses them driving a fork truck and keep his hands warm, infact other guys try to take them, because of that. These are a few years old but still work, just not as good as the new ones newer ones about 1 year old, also if these get wet, when they dry out they are still very soft, not hard like other brands I should add it has been around zero here for the past few weeks, and a few hours outside my hands are still warm with these gloves
Brrly1 1,146 #7 Posted January 6, 2014 Believe it or not I've been using my old riding gloves. They seem to work for about the first hour plus a half by then Its time for a Union break!
dodge78 94 #8 Posted January 6, 2014 I use the $2 menards specials. They are actually pretty warm. I used to have a pair of neoprene gloves - similar to scuba gloves - they work really well until someone borrows they and puts a hole in them.
redidbull 54 #9 Posted January 6, 2014 I went to Ocean State Job Lot and bout a $5 pair of orange leather gloves, Pretty warm and dexterity. For cold mittens are the way to go. For real cold these would be awesome but pricey. dclarke 4,082 #10 Posted January 6, 2014 (edited) i was looking at mittens denny, do you have enough dexterity with them? most of the gloves I've had in the past, the fingers were so padded that you didn't have much 'feel' with them anyway. These work fine for me, Martin. They're not real thick, sometimes I'll use glove liners with them. There's plenty of room for hand warmers in them, I use them on top of my fingers so they don't interfere with my grip..... Today I had to put in extra hand warmers for my thumbs, man is it cold out there! Edited January 6, 2014 by dclarke
stevasaurus 23,274 #11 Posted January 6, 2014 Martin, what you want to get is the glove/mittens that pull over your fingers. Fits on like a glove and your fingers can stick out if you want...or you can pull over the mitten piece that completes the glove. I think they use them for hunting...I use them for ice fishing and running the tractors. They are great. If you are interested, I can put a picture up.

Actually picked them up at Marc's closeouts section for 4 bucks a pair. two warm thumbs up for wool
stevasaurus 23,274 #16 Posted January 6, 2014 Here ya go Martin...the finger cover part folds back and has a little Velcro spot that holds that out of the way so you can use your fingers with out taking the glove off. I love them. I think we got them at Gander Mountain. I have no problem working the lift, throttle, or turny thing with these on.

shorts 182 #18 Posted January 7, 2014 I used to use the military surplus wool glove liners and leather over gloves when finger dexterity was an issue, the liners also work good in a big pair of leather mittens. I've also got a pail of industrial type rubber gloves that are fleece lined that I think came from Duluth trading post, they don't have much "feel" but they sure are warm and wind/liquid proof. boovuc 1,090 #19 Posted January 12, 2014 Any waterproof ski glove that contains a Gortex inner liner with a shell of Thinsolate. Must have both or they don't keep my hands warm and they don't have the dexterity needed to work outside. Gortex is the greatest thing since the invention of long johns when you work outside and you need to keep perspiration away from your body!
