plow lifting

Recommended Posts

I need a better way to lift the plow. See i have a 5' blade on a 12hp Raider it's a pull to get her off the ground after 40 or 50 times. Maybe just getting old non the less need a new trick. I do have a old  western plow electric over hydraulic thought maybe mounting on the front and using it for up & down. Has any body  tried this? Also have heard talk about something called a linear actuator. If any body can shine some light on the matter would be GREAT!!!

No need to reinvent the wheel here, unless you want to...

The Wheel Horse lift does just fine.

I would probably check with Kelly first to see if he has one. Others on here may have one from a parts tractor or something...

I do have the manual from mine- and the part number is 8-4225 Toro electric lift kit.

Partstree.com shows it discontinued.

I should probably upload this manual to the site for everyone - - I'd have to figure out how to do that first though... :eusa-shifty:

Now- besides all this --- do you have the helper lift spring  :thingy:  on your tractor?

That may be all you need.

The lift assist spring is used with the snowthrower and attaches between a tab on the "flag" and the footrest mounting bar.

I'm sure you could add a custom assist spring somewhere, but it can't be too strong or it won't allow the blade to ride firmly on the ground.

The electric lift pictured above is for the newer models and won't work on pre-'78 tractors.

There was a discussion on the forum a few years ago about adding the lift cylinder and control valve from a same-generation hydro tractor and powering it with an automotive power steering pump driven off the PTO.

Another option would be to use an electric over hydraulic pump like those used on motorhome leveling jacks or convertible tops.

I  met a guy this summer at the lake who used an ATV winch to raise and lower the mast on his sailboat single handed. It worked very well for his use. I think he said he got it from Harbor Freight or Northern Tool. His had a remote wire control. Could be made to work your plow lift.

Kelly

Craig, that is for the blower, the spring will work on a tiller, but they never made one for a plow, as was said above it would have to be a light duty spring almost not worth having

The winch and mount I made, can be used with a rear axle mounted plow also. I made this plow mount, because I didn't want to remove the mower deck, just to use the plow. I also made a plywood bucket bottom, for this plow.

2 pins pulled and the winch can be mounted in the rear, for implement lift.

Pull 1 pin, and the mount tilts forward to allow the hood to be opened.

After the picture was taken, I added power disconnect  plugs to the front and rear of the tractor.
