rydogg 186 #1 Posted December 15, 2013 I wasn't gonna get one unless one came up at a super great price and this one did.....it's a 2003 Skidoo Summit 800 with nitrous system and 700 miles on engine rebuild, someone must have held the button too long. I test rode it and it is crazy fast without the shot of NOS. Like I needed another hobby to take up my time but this was more of an investment, I am going to list it for sale at a nice profit and enjoy riding it until it sells. May need some help getting it out of "OL Rusty".
AMC RULES 37,195 #2 Posted December 15, 2013 NICE... yeah Ryan, just keep tellin' the wife you're gonna get rid of that.
rydogg 186 #3 Posted December 19, 2013 Well....I had to use the Farmall to get it off the truck I put about 50 miles on it last night and today it was in the upper 30's so the snow is disappearing fast. Kids loved getting a ride and the wife says she wants to try it out.
AMC RULES 37,195 #4 Posted December 19, 2013 (edited) So, how'd it go Ryan... looks like too much fun. Edited December 19, 2013 by AMC RULES
rydogg 186 #5 Posted December 19, 2013 0 to 80mph in no time I had more throttle to go but let off 80 is fast enough when your just ditch bang'n. Should top out at 120 or so but I probably won't find out for myself. The wind had been blowing all day so the ditches were pretty full I would have gotten a standard track stuck but this long track just blew right through the deepest stuff. Found a speed shop that will fill the nitrous tank so I can give that a try. I haven't ridden much in the last 10 years I have just been buying snowmobiles and parting them out but I think I may keep this or maybe trade for something a little smaller and more nimble on the trails like a MXZX 440 or Sno Pro. RMCIII 838 #8 Posted December 21, 2013 (edited) It's really amazing to see where we have come from, to where we are, with so many motorized vehicles. As a kid, living in the country, at one time we have 5 snowmobiles. Johnsons, SkiDoo and a SpeedWay. The SpeedWay topped them all. When I say, topped them all, I mean anyone that tried failed. Polaris, Yamaha, Artic Cat, Rupp, ect... Did not matter, this machine was wicked fast. With it's 650cc triple Kohler high fin heads, ported carbs and ice picked track. Nothing but air was all you got after grabbing the throttle. You had to steer the sled with your weight. The only time the skis were planted, on the ground, was when it was not moving... Being a farmer, dad had the idea, to attach an IH front weight to it.... Did not matter, still lifted the skis right off the ground. Like all neat toys, it finally went away. A guy from Wisconsin heard about it. Drove 4hrs. with a 6 place trailer and 5 sleds. His mission was to prove he had a faster sled, if he didn't he was going to own it. Well, 5 races later, it was time to talk $$$$. He left with 6 sleds and a smile on his face. Edited December 21, 2013 by RMCIII
rydogg 186 #9 Posted December 21, 2013 (edited) I picked up another one yesterday (darn craigslist). Polaris Storm 800 with a triple cylinder not sure if this one will get repaired or just knocked in the head and put on ebay in pieces. Odometer only reads 410 miles but I will need to dig a little deeper to make sure that is correct. RMCIII Those older sleds are very fast I used to own a 1978 Skidoo Blizzard 6500 with a 340cc engine it was a factory racer, I could line up with almost any newer big cc sled and take him out of the hole but get beaten on top end. The older sleds are very lightweight compared to what is out there today. Edited December 21, 2013 by rydogg
stevasaurus 23,274 #10 Posted December 21, 2013 Very cool Ryan...at least you are in the snow belt for using it. I'd be sitting in the garage with a glass of Rock & Rye just looking at it.
shorts 182 #11 Posted December 22, 2013 I used to work on a 76 merc 440 liquid twister that was crazy fast in it's day,100+hp and 325pounds wet out of the factory
RMCIII 838 #12 Posted December 22, 2013 Ryan, Shorts: Yep, it all has to do with EPA... Lovely thing that restricts our engines today. Funny thing is, it takes more gadgets today, to produce the HP of yesterday.. Hmmm...I think I will leave that alone. the Speedway we owned had a HP chart that topped out at 125hp, and get this, 200lb/ft of torque...Not saying that was 100% accurate, all I know is, that sled was "wicked, scary" fast....I wish we would have had a camera then... That thing ate spark plus like there was no tomorrow...It hardly idled without stalling, and it ran rich when the temp was 30 plus. Once it dipped below the 30 degrees, man-oh-man, look out. That thing was like greased lightning...Bragging is not welcome in any thread, this is not bragging, just facts... Our driver, Mike Rager, would allow the challenger a head start. Not once did he loose.. As the sales brochures said, It's a Ferrari.. It truly was... I have yet to see a sled duplicate what that sled did... Once again EPA...
