nylyon-(Admin) 7,880 #1 Posted December 8, 2013 If you're looking to get someone some technology for Christmas, forget about the sexy ads and buy for what it'll be used for. Example, an iPad, or Tablet (insert brand here) is going to be an awful and expensive choice if the receiver is interested in ONLY reading ebooks. Why? Most of these devices are backlit, like a laptop screen. These are absolutely horrible in the sun, or outdoors. If getting an ereader, look for one which can be viewed in direct sunlight. The pleasant surprise is they cost FAR less than their sexy counterparts. If however your loved one is going to use the device for heavy gaming, then choose the model which first and foremost supports the games they enjoy most, and second one which has the fastest processor. Spreadsheets / wordprocessing? It's all about applications, what do they want to do with this thing? Buy for how it'll be used, not because it's an Apple or Samsung, or Microsoft. Most of all, be prepared to spend extra for quality, nothing worse than cheeping out and getting garbage! Enjoy this Christmas!
