Here in the north there's sleet and snow, temp has been single digits all day 36f for those across the pond...

Rivers are high and ground waterlogged - and a wild front is on the way! Let's see what happens

Aw Neil , That's not good. At least it's mild weather for the next several days. Do you have Wood Stoves or Fireplaces?.

They reckon 60 mm (2 1/2ins) of rain in next 24hours for Southern UK. and force 10 wind gusts....That will cause problems for some people. You have 3 Flood warnings down in S/West area so far.....stay dry.

Reckon you may have a chance of Snow on Tuesday Mark. Plus some pretty strong winds. Charge the Camcorder up!.

Had a few wild days of late. Gale force winds and heavy rain. Even thunder and lightening. The lane by us was flooded Friday night but clear by Saturday noon.   Did get another couple of trees the other day. Only about 4 ton though.

Had a fair old drenching here in the whole of Southern England. Between 80 and 120mm  of rain in 18hours. Hope your ok in the West Country.  Gatwick Airport has gone quiet with a Power Outage.

More on the way and the North & Scotland is in for today/night as well. Hang on to your Hats and stay safe.

50-60mph plus winds up here today. Occasional showers, some hail. Doesn't half hurt. Had a job to walk down the lane earlier. Even the dogs weren't very keen and they've got four paw drive.

We have survived pretty good, though I reckon rivers still have another foot to come up yet...

I hope you have all survived the wind and rain without damage, it did really hammer it down here!

Had a couple of small leaks from the Workshack roof, but nothing damaging..

Those of you whom have been here will know I live right at the top of a private road, which means being at the top of a hill flooding wasn't a problem, but right at the bottom of the private road where it joins a public road has been known to get a bit wet after heavy rain!

As my Wife was away Monday night I was worried she could get back Tuesday..

Best fire up the GT14+2 and have a look..

The amount of water pouring down the lane didn't bode well!

Ripples on the road.

Er, yes it is slightly wet!

This chap tried to get through but decided not to risk it in the end.

The good news is when I checked a couple of hours later the water level had dropped quite a bit and my Wife was able to get home for Xmas :handgestures-thumbup:

The bad news is more wind and rain are on their way overnight and tomorrow.. We might not be able to go anywhere for a while!

Have no pics, as it was too dangerous to stop, but the number of trees down across the road has been quite high. I counted 30 down in 15 miles .

Some were only cut/cleared on one side of the road (on a blind bend as well).

Flooding was pretty bad, being in the area that is the source of the River Mole. A23 Blocked/Flooded just north of Horley.

About a 100 yards away from me, the road under the low Victorian Railway Bridge (London to Brighton) was flooded to 3 foot deep where an Audi tried to go through it Christmas Eve.

The water is nearly gone, and left 1 foot of mud and the Audi is still there with water dripping out of the door seals !.....wondered why there wasn't much traffic along that road :scratchead: .

It's the same here, just without any dogs..

"They" say this sort of weather will be with us for the next 7-10 days until the jet stream moves a bit..

A couple of photos of Romsey on Christmas Eve courtesy of the BBC.

River Test in flood - there's usually a bank on each side that you can walk on!

post-4509-0-71397500-1388427197_thumb.jp

One of the roads into the town center which was closed for a while - not so much due to the depth of water but the storm water backed up in the sewer lifting the manhole covers flooding the road resulting in unseen hazards beneath the water.

Lots of trees down everywhere most of which werecut up and stacked at the sides of the roads where it's remained ever since. A large tree that fell across the A36 wasn't finally cleared and the road reopened until Boxing Day afternoon.

The next storm was a bit off a damp squib but today's was pretty fierce though thankfully not a lot of rain as the ground really can't take any more. There's another on its way the forecasters say! Great!

To think that I passed on buying an Argocat with damaged hull at a good price a year or so ago! Anyone got the plans for an Argo-WH?

Andy

Seriously considering some sort of Outrigger Floats for the WHs Andy.

:sad-darkcloud: We're in for another Battering from tonight - through to Sunday. South West (Neil etc) are in for the heaviest rain and winds initially.

Rest of the country will not escape it.

Hope you and the Horses stay Dry Neil :handgestures-fingerscrossed:   :chores-mop:  ....and everyone else stays safe n dry.

UK may have to do a Bucket collection for Ian's Shack Roof leaks at this rate. :ychain: ......... put me down for the Roof Repair Team when it stops raining Ian  :tools-hammerdrill:

Are you sure about that Richard? You haven't seen how much it bows downwards when it's walked on :D

Seriously though, hope you all get through this latest wave of UK battering without any problems..

:laughing-rolling:  :laughing-rolling:  :laughing-rolling:   Yes it was. Between Silloth and Allonby. They had to close it to stop plonkers going down it, to watch the sea flooding the road at Dub Mill.

Just thought I'd put a link on here to some pretty awesome images for all of the Storms/Flooding etc we've had over the last fortnight.

Ok , they on a Newspaper's Website, but some of the pics are magic...just skip the other interruptions.

The storms have been almost daily now since the New Year, sometimes high winds and very heavy prolonged rain, sometimes less rain but it continues relentlessly.

I previously posted a photo of Winchester Road in Romsey taken on Christmas Eve which was flooded again and closed to traffic on New Years Day (below)

post-4509-0-37540500-1389136331.jpg

I'm pretty sure the intrepid cyclist was blissfully unaware that the water was from a main sewer that carries a mix of surface water and raw sewage. It has happened again since and several houses now have pumps running continuously pumping out their cellars on to the pavement.

I came across this photo of a crushed van in Southampton - good job nobody was in it at the time!

post-4509-0-76377400-1389136695.jpg

If all the rain had come as snow, which was the original long range forecast, we'd be pretty much buried in the stuff by now much as in the US.

There has been alot of flooding within the past 12 months from what I am seeing. How unusual is this? Or is it commonplace?

Sorry Van, missed your post yesterday.

Well from what I've noted, We had the 2nd wettest Summer/year in 2012 since 1910. 2000 was the wettest with just over 54" (1.3372 mtrs).

Reckon this January will be up there with the highest monthly.

Over Christmas, this area (around Gatwick Airport) suffered pretty bad (called the Mole Valley). Caused by local heavy Rain, the Mole river and it's Tributaries flow north to the Thames and it just could not cope with the volumes.

Flooding occurs more frequently in the South West down Neil's way, as well as Wales and the Northern Districts. East Anglia area is the driest

We only get snow when the Winds are from the North or East mainly . had about 5 consecutive years of snow in England. Prior to that, none for several years. So Luck of the old Mother Nature's Draw really. Grossly unpredictable Long Range.

Thank you Richard for this information. I am trying to learn more of your area now that I am a frequent visitor to the Europe section of RS.
