Considering a Charger V8

Recommended Posts

peckens

Hi everyone I'm new to the forum. I saw an old charger v8 for sale about 3 months ago and ended up turning the other away. However, I just recently found the add again and now it is half the price. Shockingly the GF gave me permission to buy, as if that matters :P.  As far as I know it is just missing the engine. I figure if I bought it I would put my 14.5 BS motor from my 2001 Murray in it and sell the weak Murray. Just curious if this is a decent buy or even worth my time. I mainly just mow but I do like to pull some heavy stuff. I hear that vertical engines have a bad rep for being on weak tractors.

Here is the ad

No links to Craiglist ad's please.

Welcome. Don't know about the vertical shaft tractors, but someone will chime in soon.

I would pass if your looking to pull heavy stuff. Find a C series or a 300-400 series machine for the hard work and let the Murray have the grass duty.

If you consider the murry "weak" and put the same engine in the wheelhorse your really not gaining anything "yes trans and body will be a little stronger" but your really not gaining. I agree with sparky wait and get something that options and ability are endless. This is just my 2 cents.

Ok, thanks! I don't consider the engine weak by any means, but when the whole tractor flexes beneath you over a bump in the ground....

you wont just put a b&s where the kv181 lived. charger & commando v8 use a cast iron front frame casting with ribs in the bottom. the bolt patern is much larger on a briggs than the kohlerso you will need to make an adapter plate to bolt the engine onto& to the frame
