As well as tractors I am a casual collector of flashlights. By casual I mean that I am not always on the hunt for more and usually stumble on them somewhat by accident. This past weekend I hit a local flea-market, had my eyes peeled for any kind of Wheel Horse memorabilia but as usual there was nothing. Then I spotted this 70's era Ray-O-Vac Sportsman on a sellers table and it was love at first sight :eusa-whistle:  .

Its a nearly perfect light with the cardboard sleeve still intact inside of the barrel. It holds 7 "D" cell batteries and when full is somewhat heavy, wouldn't want to take it on a long hike. It can be broken down so that you only use 5 batteries or 3 batteries.

HOW BRIGHT IS IT YOU ASK?? I wish I knew, I loaded it tonight and the bulb flashed for a nano-second and blew. I wonder if the bulb has to be rated for the number of cells?  Maybe it was a 3 or 5 cell bulb? Oh well, I'll hit Radio Shack one of these days.

The priced tag was $20, the seller saw me eying it and immediately shouted out "$15 and its yours"! I looked inside, saw no battery corrosion and offered $10 and he took it...sweet!!

In mint shape and with the leather shoulder strap they bring around $50 on e-bay (I dont have the leather strap of course so mines probably worth $5   )

Not an exiting thing to collect but way cheaper and easier to store than Wheel Horses!!

Very cool old flashlight Mike! :text-datsphatyo:  I haven't seen one like that in a very long time. I understand collecting things smaller, and easier to store than :wh:'s. I collect old small engines, and I can fit 12 of them on one 4ft x 4ft shelf, and have 20+ in the house. If I tried to drive one of my Horses in the house, I'd be the one sleeping in the garage! :ychain:

Not a flip style, it kinda slides open. Its a company issue cheapie, wont take a picture and wont receive a picture, no videos and no internet access at all. Pretty much a call and receive phone that will text.....thats it!

You know Mike, people collect all kinds of unusual objects. From marbles to matchbooks, and things of all shapes and sizes. Flashlights seem like a really good choice to me. I'd like to see more of your collection if and when you're inclined to post some. Thanks for sharing, I like this one. :)

Nice Flash light Mike. I've seen some real cool looking old flash lights in my travels, I've considered collecting them myself.

I collect flashlights at work. I find them above ceilings, on top of pipes, inside of walls. Found 5 of them once in the boiler room desk. All these cheap flashlights.with the name Spike on them. Spike retired a year ago.

Wheel-N-It

I never thought of collecting flashlights. I do like old TONKA trucks from the late 50's and early 60's.

I did save the first work flashlight I bought when I was a green electrician helper in 1977. Not thinking of collecting these things, when I needed a exhaust pipe extension on my CC 1650, I took a hacksaw to it and made a custom exhaust extension. Here it is sticking out the front of the grill. I hope this does not upset the flashlight collectors here. :hide:

I have a nice little vintage Tonka collection myself...I used to have a pretty large collection but I sold a bunch of it on Ebay a few yrs back. I kept just the ones I had as a kid some 40 yrs. ago.

Ken, I'm looking for a "Green" John Deere track loader from the early 1960's if you have one for sale.

I'm in San Diego for a couple weeks and have some time off this weekend. There are no Wheel Horse's anywhere around here but there is a flea market that's supposed to be good, I'll be there tomorrow (Sunday) lookin for that next battery operated treasure!!
