So I have a compressor.........

I git a nice Rol-air wheelbarrow compressor. It has*ballpark* 9 gallon tank. 5.5hp Kawasaki gas motor. Now, my dilemma. One if the tanks has a leak. Can I step up to a 40 gallon tank without doing any damage?

Since it's a gasoline motor I can't think of a reason it would do any damage but it will take a lot longer to get up to pressure.  If it were electric I could a possible overheating issue.

We used the wheelbarrow type compressors on the job .there were times we would get a hole in the tank and plug it with a metal screw and rubber washer.I think you could use a bigger tank with no problem. If you look at the specs on your compressor and look at a new 100 gal compressor,I think you will see your compressor is bigger.

That's what I was thinking. The thought of welding it and making a really big pipe bomb is a scary idea

I personally would never repair a tank.  You now will always have a weak point, and don't know how much pressure it can safely hold.  I'd be afraid of when (not if) it would explode.

We have welding done on cryogenic 600psi tanks .  Way I look at it, to make it it had to be welded so welding it again isn't going to hurt if done correctly. Drill the hole out and weld a filler plug in.  For a low pressure air tank like your talking almost anyone could do it  Or take it to a cert welder and let them do it

What gives anyone the idea a tank like this would explode. It would just start leaking again, not explode.

A few very well respected people have told me some horror stories. The thought makes my skin crawl
