Air Impact

Recommended Posts

MalMac

My 1/2 drive air impact is on full speed a head. No trigger control at all. I put the air to it and it just takes off. I have never tore one a part before. Anybody ever been into one of these. Would kinda like to know what I may be looking for.

What is the minimum pressure needed to operate, and how much pressure do you have at the tool?

No sure on the min. Operating at or around 90.

I would put about 3 or 4 drops of a 3 & 1 oil in the air intake and let it set there for a while...blow a little air through it and let it set...and then see what happens...repeat if it helps.  Easy to take apart...but it sounds like something is just sticking a little... :)

:text-yeahthat:   Trigger valve "O" rings are probably dry or have some build up, 3in1 or Marvel Mystery may do the trick.

Good luck.

Like the others said, its probably a little rust/crud build up inside.  Moisture from the compressor causes a bit of corrosion on the valves etc.  Just adding some oil may get it all working, if not it'll need pulling apart and cleaning.

Marvel Mystery oil does an air tool lubricant.  I use it, but haven't had a tool apart since I started using it to see how good it works.

Thanks everyone for the help. I put some oil in and so far nothing's changed. It acts like whatever the triggers connected to is not connected anymore. Try and tear it down tomorrow.

You could try a site like "garage journal"...it is not hard to tear down and they may have a thread on it. :)
