How can they call this an improvement? I thought an improvement should make things smoother, and simpler. How is it an improvement when it takes moe actions to get to the same place. It's like putting a starter button in your car and calling it an improvement over the key switch.

My computer finally gave up so I popped for a new one,I should say I got P___ed on by a new one,

8.1 fixes a lot but you really need a touch screen to take advantage of it.

If you want the Start button back lots of people install this http://sourceforge.net/projects/classicshell/

I thought that the last update was nice, a lot of decent features which I was glad to see, i.e. air play to your Apple Tv for a second screen, tighter integration with social media and the use of tags in spotlight....  oh...  you're talking about Windows......  sorry :hide:

You're right I'm sorry. Try to upgrade to 8.1 it's supposed to be a little friendlier (unlike my comment :( )

I'm just joking,I don't get offended that easy.I understand that I am digitaly challenged.

I did upgrade to 8.1,my brain just hasn't been upgraded in awhile

While your here I just discovered a problem with photos. When I paste the url from photobucket everything stops working. The only thing that works is the back button which cancels everything .

Are you pasting the URL directly into the window, or using the little picture icon and pasting the URL there?

I am clicking on the image icon and pasting it there. When I paste it then click ok,nothing happens. If I try to use the x to close the box I get a message asking if I'm sure I want to end this,I click yes and nothing happens. That is when I hit the back button and I lose my post.

I'm wondering if it's something with the photobucket links.

I have had a lot of odd happenings with this computer. Some links wont work and at other times the same links will work

I have to admit that I'm as challenged as anyone when it comes to puters. I recently had to "pop" for a new one also and got windows 8. I was furious in the beginning but decided it's just like a new job, you have to learn how to do it. So I dove in and kept at it every day until now I can get around pretty good. I don't know much about the technical side of things that Karl talked about but I can now do everything I could do on the old machine that ran XP. I had to tackle it because the computer is my evening entertainment. I don't watch TV much anymore because of all the reality crap on there, plus sitting there with "Flipper" (the Mrs.) drives me nuts. But I digress...

I remember buying my son a commodore 64,wow,it even had Pong,I never did get the hang of that.

Anyway some years later I called him and said ok,I'm ready to get a computer and get the internet. He got me the latest,it was a 486,he said this thing is so much faster than my 386.LOL A couple years later AOL wouldn't even work on it.When he set it up,I said ok how do I go to AOL?He starts telling me go here and click that,WHOA,I don't even know how to turn this thing on.He just gave me that look that I used to give him when he couldn't change a spark plug.

I did the same.  I have a couple of Mac's, and put VMWare Fusion on both of them so I can run Windows, Linux, other OSX's you name it. On my windows 8 virtual machine I tried to upgrade to windows 8.1 and it keeps failing with an error which Microsoft has yet to resolve. I used to really lie Microsoft, and although Apple has a lot of haters, can't beat a Mac (except for price!)

If you like the look and feel of Windows 7 you can set Windows 8 and 8.1 to boot right into desktop mode. http://www.7tutorials.com/how-boot-desktop-windows-8-skip-start-screen  By doing that and adding back the start button that I mentioned above it's will make it look and feel mostly like Windows 7 (but more stable and faster).  Apple does seem more geared towards the less technical but I'm not that fond of their walled garden approach.

You could always wipe the drive and install free Linux.

Definatly look into what the Doctor above said. It will run just like windows7 if you want it to. You can bypass the whole new graphical interface(smart phone app stuff) if you want to. I just got a new computer, and the 8.1 upgrade is a little friendlier than 8.0 I added a shutdown icon to my screen as well. Change is good....sometimes.

About 8 months ago I took the plunge and upgraded my 12 year old Dell.  I paid extra to have Windows 7 and from what I've heard it was money well spent.

Eeekk!!... Not Windows 8!!   I'm sticking with Windows 7, nice and stable... Most of the time B)

The only totally stable Windows OS that I have used was good old 2000 Pro!

Once you go "MAC" you'll never go back! I was a die hard Windows user. Bought a MAC three years ago and have never looked back. I know there more money but worth every extra penny.

I tried to re-install Windows 8 which I have running as a "virtual machine" on my MacBook, but unfortunately the License key which I have is for an Upgrade only, not for a fresh install.  I did upgrade a while back from Windows XP to Windows 8, but that XP is long gone.  This stinks....
