KC9KAS 4,741 #1 Posted October 23, 2013 My GT-14 (14 hp K series) won't start. It was flooding bad, so I removed and rebuilt the carb. After installing the carb I realized I did not install a spacer about 1/4-5/16" thick between the carb and the block. I was told this shouldn't hurt anything. I have good spark, good compression, and I checked the flywheel key to make sure it wasn't broken. I have made the initial carb adjustments but can't get this thing to even attempt to start. It won't even fire on carb cleaner (with fuel shut off). Any other suggestions?
boovuc 1,090 #2 Posted October 24, 2013 Sounds like you lost your spark! Check your connections throughout. Maybe pulled or bumped something loose. Pull the plug and see if you have a spark. Also since it was flooding bad, open up the points cover and make sure the gas didn't gunk things up in there.
KC9KAS 4,741 #3 Posted October 25, 2013 The plug had spark, but others suggested replacing the plug. I put in a new plug, shot a small squirt of carb cleaner in the intake and hit the key. It only took 3 seconds, and it was running like a well oiled sewing machine! Had to do a little carb adjusting after it warmed up. I never thought that a plug that had spark could be weak enough to NOT start an engine.....I know better now!
