Stepney 2,354 #1 Posted October 22, 2013 (edited) Hello everybody. Well, I got myself into another bad little hobby, I saved three bicycles from the crusher, but they came with an oddball... Any of you ever seen a Indian bicycle!? It resembles a Phillips, or a Raleigh... But I never saw that one before. Just figures some of you would like to see this, I'm still trying to find some info on it... EDIT: I forgot to mention, the Indian's the brown one. All three of them were going to be scrapped!? Woo would junk that Schwinn!? They all run, too... Spenser. P.S.... I just love free junk Edited October 22, 2013 by Stepney

tunahead72 2,543 #3 Posted October 24, 2013 I saw one of those Indian bicycles back in 2000. It belonged to a guy I worked for at the time. I don't remember the details, but he had just fixed it up a little to be able to ride it around, and hadn't even noticed the Indian logo until I pointed it out to him -- can you post a photo of your logo when you get a chance? I don't know anything about them, but I'm guessing they're from the same company that brought us one of the coolest motorcycles on the planet. There almost HAS to be something on the Internet about them, let us know if you find out anything interesting. And good luck with your new addiction!
6wheeler 669 #4 Posted October 24, 2013 Its a nice Bicycle. Now if you can throw on some valanced fenders and say a nice gas tank? Oh yeah, and an Indian motor? Now you are talkin . . Just kidding. Nice find.

Stepney 2,354 #7 Posted October 25, 2013 Well, I'll have to get some pics. This morning, The '57 and the Scout are my service bikes, (And oh my, do the other boys at school scoff me for riding such a 'girly bike' 8 miles back, and to, school.... That is, until they challenge me to a race downhill, and it dawns on them that it really WAS a 3 speed iron tank, and by now I'm flashing right past their sissy road bikes, with 27 speeds and disc breaks! All kidding aside, I DO have fenders for it, but they don't fit on for some reason, and they are mangled and rusted through in a few areas... I also love that 856, though it's almost too nice to use... Spenser.
Stepney 2,354 #8 Posted October 25, 2013 All right, in a free block today, I ran the serial number, it's a 1946. Sold from '46 to 1947, Apparently it didn't do too well, and they moved to Phillips to built the bike in 1950. So, apparently, his IS an Indian!? I never knew that they built bicycles.... I have seen the mid 30's models, but never a roadster bike like this. Saw a 'Princess' Online, though. It was the twin to a Raleigh-Phillips Ladies model... Spenser. tunahead72 2,543 #9 Posted October 30, 2013 I can't really tell from the photos -- do the handlebars on the Indian look original to you?
Stepney 2,354 #10 Posted October 31, 2013 I can't quite tell… Some had the 'North Rad style', I saw one other with similar bars… I doubt it myself, I think I found why too. The front fork is from a Raleigh, and once the bars are high, this made the goose neck so that it applied tension on the bearings, as the original brass nut had stripped. So even IF I had original bars, then the steering would be sloppy… When I got it, it had a white and pink rubber Barbie wheel on it! I think now that the bike, besides those things, is original though. Everything else matches...
