KT17 Losing Fuel Prime

Recommended Posts

boovuc

Good morning!

The C-175 is ready again for snow blowing but I am noticing something about it starting.

It seems to me that after two or three days of not starting the KT17 in it that it takes significant and repeated cranking to start it. It is defiantly for lack of fuel. I remember seeing a thread on this quite a while back on the old forum location.

I don't smell gasoline anywhere on or around the tractor. I don't see gasoline around the fuel pump or on top of the engine/carb/manifold.

After not running it a month recently, I had to put gasoline in the carb's intake several times to get it to run on it's own. Once it runs on it's own, it purrs like a kitten and runs out as it should through the RPM range.

The oil is good and not thinned out nor does it smell like gasoline.

Any ideas??

Thanks,

I'm wondering if a check valve in the pump is hanging up letting fuel siphon back to the tank. My C-145 gets  a bit hard to start after sitting also. The tank is lower than the carb so it's possible. I'm considering installing an electric pump near the tank to help prime the fuel line.

A quick and easy fix is to install a primer bulb like boats have in the fuel line.

I know others have had trouble and opposed to workarounds, was the actual fix a new fuel pump fix?

If so, where is "the place" others used to get KT17 parts for a fuel pump.

Thanks,

My C175s and 418a c-141 all take forever cranking (30 or more seconds feels like forever) before they will fire if they have been sitting.  I have experimented with closing the shut off valve at it seems to help sometimes which make me think fuel is draining back to the tank while they sit.  The older horses with the tanks under the hood never have that issue.

Well I "tried" to shut-off the gas valve and it started to spew gasoline through the valve. It doesn't leak if it's left open. Gee! I wonder if I didn't find my issue on starting when it's left sitting for awhile.

That said..............I looked at an Ebay bought fuel valve and bushing I've had for over a year and for the life of me, I can't believe you can push that bushing through the bottom inlet of the gas tank. It looks incredibly large to me to fit!

You put teh rubber bushing in first then push the valve though it.  Some lube helps

Thanks Paul!

My package didn't have instructions and I didn't come with common sense!

I'll agree with the others - all my tractors with the tank under the seat take a lot longer to start if they have been sitting for a while.

I've never bothered to fix any of them, but my feeling is that the fuel drains back to the tank leaving air in the line.  Wish I could remember to shut off the fuel when I am done.

I’m looking for wheel horse tractors for sale or for parts in the Eastern Nebraska or western Iowa area. Preferably 8 speed manuals. Pm me or comment with what you have. The worst I could say is it’s out of my price or distance range. Edit: engine is not important, it’s going to get an engine swap.
      Thanks,
      John

Hello all. I am looking for suggestions on adapting the pto from my C series tractor to a harbor freight predator 420 13hp engine. I know the predator motors are a controversial topic however it is the route I have chosen for this particular machine. The intent was to mostly use it for plowing so no PTO required but it would be handy to have. Looking to hear from someone that has successfully done the swap that may offer any advice before I attempt to transfer it over. Just looking for any general pointers that will help me along the way to make it go as smoothly as possible.

1979 c-101 nice project tractor just needs a few odds and ends, steering wheel, coil, carburetor bowl, the wiring was redone by previous owner....all 4 tires are good and hold air it goes into all gears no problem, transmission fluid has been changed, 10hp Kohler, message me or call or txt with any questions, it does run and runs well,  it’s been kept inside since I’ve had it, I would also trade for a mid mount grader blade thanks

Will the plow I am using on my C121 and C160 work on a 876?
or is the plow frame different?
      Thanks
