Kai Thomsen 17 #1 Posted October 11, 2013 Just wondering..and i'm sorry if if it may be a stupid question: My Wheel Horse was born as a 8HP 8speed tractor, it used to have an 8hp K181, but since it blew up many years ago it now has an 8hp magnum engine. From what i have read, it also came in 10 and 12HP versions ? is there any difference besides the larger engine, are the bigger HP tractors larger than mine ? I believe there is short frame..and long frame tractors.. and A / B / C series, which category does my 8HP fall into ?
Anglo Traction 761 #2 Posted October 11, 2013 (edited) Your '73' Model is the Long Frame/Hood version Kai. The same Frame/size was used through the 70s on the various 'No Name' and 'C' type Models that had the bigger Engines bolted to it, so same size. If you want to go bigger on the Engine, you may only need to obtain the larger bore Drive/ PTO Pulley/Bearings and Clutch Plate to fit the larger Crankshaft diameter. Also the Throttle/Clutch Cables may need to be longer/replaced?. If you can, go for a 'Flat Pan' (e.g. K301s) Engine, rather than the 'Cradle Mount' (K301AS). Regards. gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,441 #3 Posted October 11, 2013 This ipl covers some of the 1973 long frame tractors and all use the same frame. http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/files/file/1705-tractor-1973-8-spd-8hp-10hp-12hp-14hp-8-speed-ipl-wiring-a-5343pdf/ Operator manual In 1974 the model names changed to the C-Series - very much the same tractors.
