Noob, with a Commando 8

Hi,

Just acquired a Commando 8,  has a Brigg's 8HP replacement pull start motor, and missing the belt shield.  Rode it today, mowed a little, but lot's to be done and to learn here.  I'm hooked!  How hard is it to find a belt guard and return this to the original running gear?  Are decals available?

Decals are available at redoyourhorse.com and finding a motor is not to hard you just have to look belt guard shouldn't be to hard to find 856 857 all would work on commando 8 my commando 8 is one of my favorite WH

Welcome, not sure where in OH you are but I have a good running 8hp Kohler to fit in there, and the correct belt guard will be a little tough to find it has no indent on that one, only the commando 8, 857, and 867 will be correct off the top of my head.

Not sure where you are but I'm in Mansfield Ohio about 70 miles north of Columbus & have most of my parts tractors in Mt Gilead.  I have a Commando 8 down there not much left & no guard. but do have a 867 at home I use. But could use it to compare or fab one. also have some k181s nothing off a Commando 8. Not really looking to sell one but I do have a couple I would think about parting with.

Derek,  you sound like someone from the smokstak forums?  I'm HellerAller over on there.  Mansfield, I went to Senior High, I'm in Mt.Gilead about twice a week, I do research at the Gen Society there.  I'm originally from Cardington, but since I got married last month were living in Marion for now.

My Commando is out by Cardington, so I'll have to get pic's and take stock of what all is left of it to know  fully what else I need.  I think the parking brake is missing as well.

Well, so I decided to contact the seller of the mower, and inquire about the belt guard.  Surprisingly they had it, and brought it over to me.  Now was that lucky or what?

That's great. If he had the original motor then you would have all the right guards. The rest of the stuff will be easy to get.

My commando 8 is awesome and just traded for a 857 I even have a 308-8 with a magnum 8hp
