Credit Card Account Theft!

I got my new credit card in the mail on saturday.

I called the 1-800 number to activate it.

I then got my old one out of my wallet to replace it........when

I noticed something odd..... It had not yet expired.

I also noticed that it was a different card number! :wtf:

I tried to call the card company....but.....no one there

until Monday. (nice! crooks get to have a whole weekend

if your card gets stolen).

Sorry this is taking so long....my computer keeps dying.

Anyway, I call the credit union on Monday morning.

The lady on the phone said that their was a breakin

by a bunch of "kids" into many local merchant sites.

When the police arrested this bunch, they found they had

aquired numerous credit card numbers from these merchants

and ours was one of them!!!!!

I must have said 10 times in a row!

She said when the police reported it to the credit union

they cancelled my card number and issued a new card.

Now for the controversy!!!!

I am a big user of the internet, but I am dead set against

"anyones" personal information being stored on "any"

computer that is linked to the internet!!!

I do not care if it makes merchants and creditors feel all warm

and fuzzy to have peoples personal information at their

fingertips. This is irresponsable!!! And when something gets

fouled up (as it always does). It is you and I that pay for it.

I see no reason other than convenience to have personal or

sensitive information on the internet. Firewall, anti-virus

programs and the like are nice......but not full-proof. That is

a truth that a lot of proponants of the internet do not want

to shed light on.

Of course nothing in this world is safe. But you can make it

"safer" and most of these merchants are putting your very

personal information at risk for useless convenience.

My wife and I were just lucky this time. The police caught these

kids before they had a chance to use our credit card number or

sell it to anyone else to use.

This same credit union itself was hacked into by people from

"Russia" of all places. People discovered over time that

there debit accounts were missing small amount of money.

These crooks were clever....they decided to take $25 & $50

from various accounts in hopes they would not be noticed.

We had friends that lost $100 over a 6 month period of time.

I hope the powers that be in the credit union get their own

"wake up call" someday and have their accounts comprimised.

Only then will something start to change.

Gee.......now you guys have me thinking......and worried.

This has been a weird year......

And there is still 1/3 of the year left!

I guess I had better look on the bright side......motorcycle accident could have been worse......they could have stolen my whole trailer......and could have maxed out my credit limit..... Am I leaving anything out?

Oh yes!

I also fell down a small flight of stairs in the early spring, while carrying a generator. Busted up my knee when I hit the concrete...... But you guys did not know me then... Does it count???

I guess I am a pretty lucky guy! Especially since I found this site and all you guys I am hoping to consider my friends!!

Who else could I ramble on to??

I guess this year was a good year compared to last year!!!!!!

We all have minor accidents, mishaps, and things that befall us. It's called life. As long as these things aren't major, then we learn from them and move on and thank God it wasn't more serious. Take care, now, okay. :banghead:
