Muffler Paint

Recommended Posts

I have used VHT Header Paint before. I read the directions and I'm going to bake the muffler in the oven. 30 min. at 250F, let cool 30 min. etc. What I was confused about is, do I have to wait 7 days for the paint to cure, before baking it? The directions seem a little gray as to how long to wait before baking it. I read some instructons for VHT header paint. They say to wait until paint is dry. They said it takes 3 hours before being able to handle what I painted. I'm assuming to start the baking process after the 3 hour drying time. If anyone has any advice. I would appreciate it.

Actually, that paint dries to the touch very fast...no need to wait three hours to handle it...more like twenty minutes.

The last one I did...I rushed right through the painting process, one light coat, waited about five minutes...

then two more heavy coats back to back. I then let it dry overnight before doing the heat curing, and cool down cycles.

I think I did at least three cycles of heating it up to operating temps, and cooling back down mounted on the tractor.

Followed the directions on the can, not to the letter though.

I think you'll find it's an easy product to work with really.   :confusion-shrug:

Painted this one a few months ago...holding up fine so far.    :handgestures-thumbsup:

I just sprayed some VHT silver for a new stack for Elvis today. I liked the stainless one I did with the rain cap but it would blow black gunk all over the  hood and me when first started up. Got some 1 1/2" conduit and a custom 45 for a tip. Plan on installing it tomorrow or Monday. pics coming.

Won't it stank the house all up and make the oven REALLY stanky?

I think I would use the barbecue grill outdoors...

I used this paint!

It was dry to the touch in about a half hour. I sprayed mine light, waited until it was dry to the touch then sprayed again real well. I left it in the garage overnight then took it to work the next day where we have explosion proof industrial ovens for drying solvent based adhesives.

I put it in the oven at 120C for a half hour, took it out, repeated twice more. One year later.....the muffler has turned to a whitish color. Not happy with that product and I felt I did everything correctly.

I did 2 mufflers last year. I followed instructions. 30 min. at 250F, cool 30 min, 30 min at 400F, cool 30 min, 30 min at 600F. The paint is still on the mufflers and looks great. The part I forgot was how long to wait after the final coat of paint. The instructions say to wait until dry. They don't say how long that is supposed to be. I put it in oven yesterday after 3 hours of dry time at 250F and noticed the finish started to wrinkle. So I pulled out the mufflers. I sanded off the wrinkled ares. repainted them I'm going to try it tonite on the grill. 24 hours should be enough drying time.

I have a WH 300 series with a Kohler Magnum 10 engine and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get the choke cable and linkage set so it will work. The numbers on the engine label  are worn off the, so I cannot give anyone that information. Does anyone have a picture or can you head me in the right direction.

My arm for the linkage assembly is set at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock if that helps. There seems to be several different linkage rods for this engine.

      Thanks

      Hey all!

Replacing the drive belt on my 252-h. Anyone know the torque specification for the center screw when I put this pto clutch back on? I know it was on there tight it took a minute for the impact to break it loose. Thanks!

Hey all. I have a Electro 12 with a factory belly blade. It runs* and drives. I had used it to grade my driveway the last 6 yrs. Having moved I'm looking at my options on storing it or selling it. Frankly I have no idea what it is worth. I watched "ISaveTractors" video on 5 things to do with a new to you wheel horse/12hp kohler. (When i got it 6yrs ago) And went thru and did the adjustments and replaced the parts mentioned. It has been a good strong tractor for me until around July of this year. (2023)
*Around July it started dying after running 20-30min. I replaced the carb (Chinese Amazon purchase) with one from isavetractors web site. That seemed to help it idle smoother(the old carbs jets wouldnt adjust), but it still dies at around 20-30min.
      So I've got 2 questions.
      1. What is it worth? (As-Is) and
      2. What do I need to do to fix it?
      Thanks yall!
