Am I absolutely crazy? Or would this be a good idea?

Hey All,

I have a 2005 660 Raptor that hasn't run since 2007 or so.  Operator error, young and dumb, call it what you want.  It's a toy, I treated it as so, needs major engine work.  there's a valve into the piston and a broken rocker at the least..

I also have parked in the drive, a well used 2001 4x4 Crew Cab Powerstroke Ferd.  I believe it's gonna need injectors, needs a rearend (growling), needs a front axle because the inner bearing on the hub left a deep grove, needs outer unit bearing hubs and some tires.

The truck owes me nothing, I've put over 100,000 miles on it since owned and have made more than it's value hauling scrap and whatnot.  It's been paid for for quite some time.

I'm thinking of finding a mechanic with TIME AND MONEY to buy a crate engine for the raptor and get it running cherry, I'd give em the truck.

thoughts?  comments?  anyone around grand rapids willing to take me up on this?  :)

Thanks!

Sounds like you have no attachment to the 7.3 and it needs some work anyway.  If you don't need that truck, go for it!

I made a trade for services once and I do regret it.  I got my driveway repaved, and traded a Mach I Mustang for part of the work.  I do wish I had kept the car and just gave money now.

Yeah, the truck has served me well but if I were to fix it up I'd be looking to get rid of it anyways.  It's been down for a year, I'm ready for it to move on.  The bigger issue is the time, I wouldn't regret getting rid of the truck.  We've got plenty of chevy trucks around to pull stuff, nothing to compare to the diesel but we've gotten by this long, might as well toss in the towel!

Thanks for the input Karl

Ya crazy KBB books it at $10.000 in fair shape So even if you sold it for $5.000 needing the minor work you would be ahead

holy cats you're right Duane!  I kbb'd it in my area, 11,500 for fair!  I will have to search around on CL for comparable prices, figured it would be worth 5-6 in fair condition.  hmmm...  I suppose if I sold it I could repair the 660 and have some wiggle cash for a WH fix?  :eusa-think:
