Voitmeter on 312-8

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I was looking at the parts diagram for the 312-8 and 314-8 wiring harnass and noticed that they looked identical except the 314-8 has a voltmeter and the 312-8 doesn't.  The leads are there in the diagram for the 312-8, so I assumed I could just hook one up.  However, when I do the meter pegs.  In looking at the wiring diagram I see the ground terminal on the 314-8 ignition switch goes to the chassis but on the 312-8 it goes to the magneto.  So, I assume my meter is floating above chassis ground and not working properly.

Has anyone wired a volt meter on their 312-8?  If so, how did you make the connections?

Thank you

ScottR

What is the model number of the 312-8? The 1990 312-8 has a voltmeter.

I have a 1991 312-8 and it came with a volt meter.     :confusion-shrug:

It's a 1995 model.  I see the 1990 is like the 1995 314-8, the meters go to chassis ground. I think I will probably have to install a separate circuit and switch from the battery to operate the voltmeter but was hoping there was a cleaner solution.

Well, I just had it connected wrong. I assumed the post with the red cap was positive, wrong.  Works fine now. Thanks for listening!
